Dwayne Johnson pokes fun at Ryan Reynolds and jokes he IS playing Hawkman in the upcoming DCEU film Black Adam. Johnson has been waiting a long time to play famous DC Comics villain Black Adam, with the film's development stretching all the way back to 2008. Things finally gained traction with the arrival of Shazam, which was centered on Black Adam's biggest nemesis Billy Batson. There was hope that Johnson would appear in Shazam, but that never came to pass. Instead, his DCEU debut is being held until his solo film, which is currently scheduled for release in 2021.

Beyond Johnson, Black Adam's supporting cast remains largely unknown. Last month, Noah Centineo joined Black Adam as Justice Society of America member Atom Smasher, but so far, he's the only new addition. There have been rumors about other characters who could be included in Black Adam, like Adrianna Tomaz, Stargirl, and, yes, Hawkman. However, nothing has been confirmed just yet, leaving Black Adam under a shroud of secrecy.

Yesterday, Reynolds addressed rumors that his Green Lantern is included in Zack Snyder's Justice League by playing coy about the possibility. First, though, he also touched upon the rumors that he's playing Hawkman in Black Adam, joking that while he isn't, he generally does "whatever the hell @TheRock tells me to do." Johnson then responded to his Red Notice co-star's tweet with "You ARE playing Hawkman and that’s that." In case it wasn't clear that he's joking, he added, among other things, "you’re also @KevinHart4real’s dad. Like in real life, as per your blood test."

Black Adam could very well include Hawkman, but that doesn't mean Reynolds is playing him. In fact, it seems a bit unlikely, seeing as Reynolds is already attached to a superhero property with Deadpool. At this point, though, fans are just eager to learn which DC characters will be featured in Black Adam. They might get some new information later this month at DC FanDome, which has promised to include some major reveals. Johnson has already confirmed his presence at DC FanDome, so it's certain there will be fresh Black Adam teases going around.

Black Adam was supposed to begin filming this summer, but the coronavirus pandemic has seemingly delayed it until 2021. Because of that, there's a chance Black Adam could be bumped from its December 2021 release date. Warner Bros. has yet to announce anything, but fans can still rest assured that Black Adam will happen at some point. Johnson is particularly passionate about this project, and he's determined to play the character. Whether Black Adam will be going up against Hawkman remains to be seen, but more information should arrive soon.
