Teth-Adam's origin story may not be the most well-known, but the Black Adam concept trailer presented at DC FanDome may have helped introduce a new version of the character. Black Adam is widely known as being a supervillain in DC Comics, particularly as Shazam's arch-nemesis, but his role in the Black Adam movie seems to be more complicated.

The Black Adam concept trailer didn't have any footage from the movie itself, but it did offer a sense of how the new film will be positioning the character, who's set to be played by Dwayne Johnson. This new version of the character isn't exactly a villain, but he's no hero either. Still, the trailer suggests that he'll have his own goals, and the panel broke the news that he'll come up against the Justice Society of America as he attempts to pursue them.

In unveiling his origin story, the trailer suggests that Black Adam is several millennia old, and was originally enslaved in a society called Khandaq. Like Billy Batson, he was granted the powers of the gods, which are shortened into the acronym SHAZAM. Eventually, he led a slave revolt in Khandaq and tore down his oppressors, but he also abused his powers in the eyes of the gods. His brand of justice was ruthless, and he was ultimately imprisoned for 5,000 years by the gods who initially bestowed his power upon him. Johnson added during the FanDome panel, "He does not practice restraint. That makes for a really powerful combination and one that's explosive, one that's really dangerous, and one that is, ultimately, very likable, to me at least."

The concept trailer picks up after Black Adam was been released from his prison, and is presumably set to take place in the present-day DC universe. That means that eventually, Teth-Adam will learn that someone else was given the power of the gods. Unlike Billy Batson or many of the other superheroes in the DC world, Black Adam doesn't believe in treating his enemies with remorse or kindness. During the virtual panel, Johnson said that the hierarchy of power in the DC universe would change after Black Adam's introduction, which is understandable given that Black Adam's superpowers are comparable to Superman's.

Although the film will star Johnson in the title role, he'll have some other heroes to contend with; some members of the Justice Society of America - a group that pre-dates the Justice League and believes in truth and justice - will be introduced in the film, including Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Cyclone, and Atom Smasher. While exact plot details haven't been released yet, Black Adam is being described as a conflict between Teth-Adam and the JSA.
