Black Adam editor Mike Sale, ACE, shares his intriguing ideas for a Justice Society spin-off movie. Black Adam has been a major success for DC grossing over $250 million worldwide as well as introducing a ton of exciting characters and potential storylines that could be explored in the future. The JSA stood out as not only compelling heroes but a new team for the franchise to possibly focus on going forward.

In Black Adam, the JSA features Hawkman, Doctor Fate, Cyclone, and Atom Smasher, with Hawkman and Doctor Fate serving as the veteran heroes while Atom Smasher and Cyclone are new to the team. Black Adam introduces some intriguing storylines for each member of the JSA with the origins of Cyclone's powers, the legacy of both Atom Smasher and Cyclone's families, as well as Doctor Fate and Hawkman's pasts as long-time members of the JSA. There has been some interest in potential spin-offs from Black Adam, with Atom Smasher and Cyclone actors Noah Centineo and Quintessa Swindell sharing their ideas.

In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Sale reveals what he would like to see in a potential JSA spin-off movie. Sale shares his interest in exploring the backstories of each character as well as digging into the JSA as a whole. He also has a fascinating idea to bring Doctor Fate back by taking inspiration from Watchmen and delving into other eras of the JSA.

I love the JSA. I would like to see just a full JSA movie. In my mind, it would be great to do a movie that involves all their backstories and tells the story of the JSA, and also lets them battle something. I think that would be the coolest thing. I think you could find a way to bring Dr. Fate back. I think you could even maybe do time periods, like what they did in Watchmen, really well. I think you could do time periods, so you could bring people back and do stuff.

Can The JSA Sustain Their Own Film?

The JSA is primed to become a major player in the newly dubbed DCU as an impressive team of heroes with mysterious ties to Amanda Waller. Sale's idea of exploring not only the backstories of each team member, but the story of the JSA as a whole has a lot of potential. Revisiting the JSA through different time periods opens the door to dig into different iterations of the group through a whole new avenue of storytelling and could answer some of Black Adam's biggest lingering questions. With so many options and a memorable introduction in the recent film, it's easy to see how the JSA could easily support their own movie apart from Black Adam.

If the DCU were to fully invest in the JSA, the franchise could dig into the lineage of Cyclone and Atom Smasher through Red Tornado and the original Atom Smasher while also revealing where the team has been all this time. This could also set up the perfect opportunity to bring back Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate and flesh out his relationship with Hawkman after Black Adam. Sale's idea introduces a ton of story to potentially mine from the JSA through each member's origins as well as the beginnings of the team itself.
