New behind the scenes photos from Black Adam reveal up-close looks at Dwayne Johnson in costume filming the long-awaited DCEU movie. Johnson has been long attached to the Black Adam role, stretching back to even before he was officially cast in the part. Black Adam the movie has endured a few starts and stops over the years, but it finally dove into production earlier this year. It was once scheduled for release this month, but during the coronavirus pandemic, Warner Bros. moved it back to July 2022, where it currently stands. And this time, it just might stay.
As Johnson has repeatedly teased, Black Adam will upend the DCEU hierarchy in a major way. In the comics, the character has been portrayed as both a supervillain and an anti-hero, and it so far looks like his movie will lean more towards the latter. Black Adam will be confronted by members of the Justice Society of America, played by Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Quintessa Swindell, and Pierce Brosnan. Specific plot details are still being kept under wraps, but Johnson has been steadily pulling back the curtain on what Black Adam has in store.
The movie's recent feature in Total Film magazine has yielded a few exciting peeks at Johnson in character, and now a slew of BTS images have arrived to further increase interest. Shared online by GamesRadar+, three Black Adam pictures take viewers behind the camera to see Johnson at work on set. Most excitingly, they offer even better looks at his costume, particularly in the shot where he has his hood up. Check them out below.
It looks like these images come from the same scene that was revealed in the first Black Adam trailer, which Johnson unveiled at DC FanDome back in October. It shows the moment Black Adam is freed in the present day, presumably after being trapped for thousands of years. In the behind the scenes images, Johnson has an appropriately steely look, and even without seeing him in action, he radiates power. Black Adam is supposed to be one of the most formidable figures in the DC universe, and that qualifier already seems to ring true.
With more than seven months still to go before Black Adam arrives in theaters, there's much to uncover about the movie. Fans are still waiting on a proper trailer, though that might not come for a while. For months, much of the buzz surrounding Black Adam revolved around Johnson's costume. Now that it has received several official peeks, one can hope that attention will soon turn to things like the story and supporting characters. At the same time, though, there's no denying that seeing Johnson in his Black Adam suit is an exciting thing. It'll be even better seeing him in action, so hopefully these months will fly by.
