A first look at Pierce Brosnan's character from the upcoming DCEU antihero film Black Adam has been revealed. Black Adam comes to theaters on July 29, 2022. The film, which stars The Rock as the titular Shazam villain, was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who previously teamed with the actor on this year's Jungle Cruise. In addition to introducing Black Adam to the DCEU, this film will be more of an ensemble movie featuring the Justice Society of America, including Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), and Doctor Fate (Brosnan).

Doctor Fate is a mantle worn by many people throughout the DC comics universe, but Brosnan will specifically be playing Kent Nelson, a character previously played by Brent Stait in Smallville. Created by Gardner Fox and Howard Sherman in 1940, the hero is a sorcerer who trained under the wizard Nabu after uncovering his tomb. Doctor Fate is an original member of the Justice Society, and is typically portrayed in a blue suit with a yellow cape and a silver helmet.

At DC FanDome 2021, the second annual global live stream fan event, the Black Adam panel revealed the first sneak peek at Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate in a special promotional video. The first image is a still of him in character during an unspecified scene from the film, presumably performing magic. The second is a close-up glimpse of the metallic helmet he will be wearing when he's in action. Check out the images below:

This glimpse still wasn't a full trailer, though it did contain far more footage than the concept trailer debuted at last year's FanDome. In the behind-the-scenes video, Pierce Brosnan revealed that this film is unlike anything he's ever been in. For Black Adam to be so epic it impresses Pierce Brosnan, who has played James Bond four times, it must be especially exciting.

Unfortunately, Doctor Fate and the Justice Society aren't featured heavily in this particular glimpse of Black Adam. It does make sense considering that, even though it is an ensemble film, the best-known character is Black Adam and the best-known performer is The Rock. Fans who can't wait to see this iteration of the Society brought to life might have to wait a little longer to get closure, but keeping those plot elements in the dark will only serve to make the movie more thrilling when audiences finally get to see it.
