Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam will expand the DC Extended Universe by introducing several new characters; here's every DC Comics character confirmed to appear. Johnson has been attached to play DC's anti-hero for over a decade and the plan for his debut has changed multiple times during that time. He was originally going to be the main villain of Shazam!, but it was announced in 2017 that he would get a solo movie instead.

The groundwork for Black Adam has already been laid by Shazam! through references to another former Champion and the presence of a seventh chair in the Council of Wizards. Many expected the movie to be a prequel of sorts and show the origin of Johnson's DC character, but he has teased the opposite. During DC FanDome, Johnson revealed that the movie will be set in the present day, 5,000 years after Black Adam was previously imprisoned. The rest of the plot has been kept under wraps, but the actor has continued to tease - and eventually confirm - what other DC characters will appear.

The first big sign of what Black Adam could contain came when Johnson announced that the Justice Society of America will be featured in the movie. This immediately made fans wonder who could make up DC's other super team. Even though Johnson has since confirmed that Hawkgirl won't be part of Black Adam, the initial JSA roster has been officially confirmed. Furthermore, he has continued to tease a fight with Superman and other Justice League members being in Black Adam's future, so there's no telling what surprises could be in store. But for now, here are the characters confirmed to be in Black Adam.

Black Adam

Black Adam Dwayne Johnson

Since Black Adam is his solo movie, Dwayne Johnson will be the star of the film. The man formerly known as Teth-Adam is one of DC's most powerful characters, and Johnson has promised that the hierarchy of the DCEU will change with his arrival. Based on the presentation from DC FanDome, it appears Black Adam will retain most of the character's comic origin. Teth-Adam is a slave in Kahndaq who is introduced to the power of SHAZAM through his nephew Aman. The young boy uses his power to heal Teth-Adam, who was wounded in an escape and planned to be merciful in his attempt to bring freedom to Kahndaq. But, Teth-Adam eventually kills his nephew to take the power for himself and then wipes out the dictators in power. He was defeated later on by The Wizard, who imprisoned him for thousands of years, and Black Adam will mostly focus on what he does next.

Atom Smasher

Atom Smasher in the DC comics

Albert Rothstein aka Atom Smasher is confirmed to be in Black Adam. His inclusion in the film was previously rumored, but it became a guarantee during DC FanDome, where Johnson confirmed the inclusion of the JSA member and eventual super friend to Black Adam. Atom Smasher has the power to manipulate his molecules so he can grow to tremendous heights. To All The Boys I've Loved Before star Noah Centineo has been cast in the role and has teased the character's lineage is important to Atom Smasher's journey in Black Adam. For those unfamiliar with Rothstein's comic history, his grandfather was a supervillain with the same power set, but he'll try to make better use of his gifts in the film. Of course, if Al's comic arc is any indication, that might not be what his future holds.

Hawkman

JSA The Return of Hawkman cover

There are many iterations of Hawkman in DC Comics, and a version of the character is confirmed for Black Adam. The original Hawkman was known as Khufu, who was a former Prince of Egypt and archeologist. He and his lover Chay-Ara gained powers after encountering Nth Metal but were also killed by it, which began a cycle of reincarnation for them. One of the reincarnated versions of Khufu is known as Carter Hall and became a member of the JSA after remembering who he was. This will be where Hawkman factors into Black Adam too, as he's confirmed to be part of the film's line-up. In the comics, Teth-Adam is even with Khufu when he originally found the Thanagarian ship containing the Nth Metal.

Doctor Fate

Doctor Fate uses his powers in DC Comics.

Doctor Fate is also confirmed to be in Black Adam. The original Doctor Fate in the comics is known as Kent Nelson. He becomes a powerful sorcerer after an immortal named Nabu trains him in the ways of magic and gives him an amulet, cloak, and helmet. Nelson becomes an agent for the Lords of Chaos afterward before founding the JSA. Black Adam also has a history with Doctor Fate in a sense, as Nabu was also with Teth-Adam and Hawkman when the Nth Metal was discovered. It's also worth noting that another version of Doctor Fate was recently introduced in the comics as Khalid Nassour, an Egyptian-American student. So far, it is unconfirmed which version of Doctor Fate will be in Black Adam, although Nelson is expected to be the choice.

Cyclone

DC Comics Cyclone

The final member of the JSA confirmed for Black Adam is Maxine Hunkel aka Cyclone, who received powers to control wind from a mad scientist. She is a member of the JSA in the comics, but her addition doesn't come until much later on. However, Hunkel is a legacy member of the JSA thanks to her grandmother Abigail Hunkel, the original Red Tornado. She was a member of the JSA in the past and led to Maxine to grow up idolizing the JSA. So, when she got her powers, it didn't take long for the JSA to lend a hand and help her learn to control them. With the inclusion of Cyclone, there's a fair chance that Abigail will appear too, but that has yet to be confirmed.

The Wizard?

Shazam Wizard Brighter

It also seems that The Wizard will appear in Black Adam. The concept art/teaser featured at DC FanDome included a tease of The Wizard's confrontation with Black Adam in the past. Since Black Adam needs to show the character's origin, including the fight with The Wizard is necessary. The Wizard already has appeared in the DCEU thanks to Shazam!, where Djimon Hounsou played the ancient character. If he is in Black Adam though, a more formidable version of The Wizard could be featured.
