Noah Centineo is joining the DC Extended Universe as Atom Smasher in Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam solo movie. Johnson has been attached to the DCEU for more than a decade, and after all that time, his debut is finally getting close. The former WWE star will play Black Adam in a solo movie that is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. Black Adam is more of a villain in DC Comics and his solo film will take audiences to his ancient origins for his first appearance, instead of as a foe for Shazam or Superman.

Prior to coronavirus, Black Adam was scheduled to begin production this month ahead of a December 2021 release date. The delay to the start of filming has so far left fans without much news regarding Johnson's superhero movie. However, it was previously reported that Black Adam will include the Justice Society of America, either as allies or foes for the titular anti-hero. DC and Warner Bros. had yet to announce who will play any of those roles, though, but that has started to change.

According to THR, Centineo has been cast in Black Adam as Atom Smasher. Centineo is fresh off returning for To All The Boys: PS. I Still Love You and will be seen again in the third installment of the franchise next year. Now, it appears Centineo has found a new potential franchise character by playing Albert Rothstein, who has super strength and can grow.

Atom Smasher

Centineo's new DC role has a long comic history, as Rothstein first appeared in 1983 but went by the name Nuklon. He was a member of the Justice League for a time but left the group to join the Justice Society of America and go by Atom Smasher in 1999. It isn't long after Atom Smasher joined the JSA that Black Adam turned against his evil ways and became a member too. Atom Smasher and Black Adam form a close, brother-like relationship and it results in the two of them leaving the JSA at the same time to have adventures of their own. If Black Adam does anything similar to this arc for Atom Smasher, then Centineo should spend a lot of time with Johnson during production.

With the first member of the JSA cast for Black Adam, it might not be too long before other members are announced. The script reportedly includes roles for fellow members like Hawkman and Stargirl, while the character known as Cyclone has also been linked to the movie. It's possible that the studios will make a grand announcement regarding the casting for the other JSA members during DC FanDome next month. Although it isn't clear when Black Adam will start filming now, casting ramping up could be a positive sign that a rough plan is in place.
