Dwayne Johnson has shared a new behind-the-scenes image from Black Adam as reshoots take place. Black Adam is Johnson's first superhero role and is based on the DC Comics anti-hero of the same name, who typically acts as the nemesis of Shazam! Over the years, Black Adam has taken on a more heroic role in the comics while still retaining his anti-hero edge, teaming up with (or fighting) multiple superheroes, including the Justice Society of America (JSA), which will also appear in the film.

In addition to Johnson, Black Adam stars Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, and Sarah Shahi as Isis. Jungle Cruise's Jaume Collet-Serra is at the helm of Black Adam, which recently shifted release dates from July 29th to October 21st, 2022. Black Adam's shift (and other DCEU properties) has been blamed on VFX houses being severely backed up due to Covid delays, with Black Adam being one of the features that need more to complete the finished product.

Dwayne Johnson shared an image of Black Adam undergoing reshoots during this time and has now shared yet another picture of Black Adam in full costume, looking menacingly imposing. In the post, Johnson says that the shoot continues an "intense week of production" as they "put the finishing touches" on the film. The full body shot of Johnson in costume also highlights its detail, including the boots, gauntlets, and belt, all of which have an impressive amount of sophistication to the design. In addition to Black Adam's delay, Warner Bros shuffled the other DCEU tentpole films to accommodate the VFX backlog and a new shift in management at Warner Bros., as the Discovery merger is now complete. There have already been some significant creative changes resulting from that deal, including the cancellation of The Wonder Twins movie and two CW shows, Batwoman, and Legends of Tomorrow. Discovery insiders have said that the company is looking to restructure the DCEU, potentially giving it its own studio and finding a Kevin Feige-type figure to spearhead it to be more interconnected. How this will affect Black Adam in the long haul is unclear, but it's just a release date shuffle for now.

Having additional time for VFX and reshoots is never a bad thing for a project and typically gives the production more time to flesh things out while refining what's already looking good. Johnson's excitement for the project is palpable, and he seems fully committed to delivering a film that he's proud of and that fans will love, so the passion for Black Adam appears to be on target. Thus far, the trailers and images have been promising, even while some doubt lingers in terms of how far the appeal will go to satiate both hardcore and casual fans. Either way, Black Adam is getting a little extra time to come together, which will undoubtedly improve its chances of making an impact this October.
