The producer of Black Adam says the movie will be big and fun with a lot of edge. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, Black Adam is the first big-screen appearance of the famed DC comics anti-hero, portrayed by Dwayne Johnson. The supporting cast includes Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Sarah Shahi as Isis, and Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, who make up the Justice Society of America (JSA). The film will be an origin tale that dives deep into the creation of Black Adam, right down to his Egyptian roots.

As one of the first to wield the power of Shazam, Black Adam would later become an arch nemesis to the current Shazam/Billy Batson, who was recently introduced into the DCEU with 2019's Shazam! A sequel, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, recently wrapped production and will release in 2023. Following on the heels of Black Adam, fan hopes are riding high that the two adversaries will meet on the big screen sooner than later. Johnson has used social media to taunt Shazam, which helps build the hype around their (hopeful) eventual meet-up.

While at the premiere of Red Notice, the Netflix action flick starring Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot, Variety was on-hand to talk to a number of stars and filmmakers from the film. This included Black Adam producer Hiram Garcia, who had a lot of good things to say about the film. Garcia noted that the team "just saw the director's cut" of the film and have "something special" that the "fans are gonna love." Garcia notes that it's a different kind of role for Johnson and notes that the character is very different from heroes like Shazam and Superman. He went on to say that, Black Adam is "big, it's a lot of fun, but it's got a lot of edge to it and I think the world is ready for that." Check out the video to hear his full response.

Garcia has been with Johnson for a large chunk of the actor's resume and continues to help fuel his future projects, including Johnson's biopic The King from director Robert Zemeckis. The producer is also the one who came up with the idea for Red One, a holiday comedy that will debut on Amazon and will be directed by Jumanji director Jake Kasdan with a script by Chris Morgan. In addition, Garcia is producing the action film Emergency Contact starring Aquaman's Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, as well as John Cena's The Jansen Directive, based on The Bourne Identity author Robert Ludlum's book.

Black Adam is easily one of the most anticipated superhero movies of 2022 and a big step forward for Johnson, who will make his comic-book character debut with the film. The project has been teased so long that it almost felt like it would never happen, so hearing Garcia say that the production team recently watched the director's cut of the film is exciting news. There's no doubt that Black Adam will be big and fun, but having an "edge" will be a welcome surprise, as anything that can shake up the genre a bit and give fans something new is a welcome change as the movie market continues to be saturated with capes, powers, and costumes.
