Dwayne Johnson has celebrated Black Adam's colossal box office success by sharing an interview from 2009, expressing his love for the titular character and the potential to play him. After years of drawn-out development and significant production delays, Black Adam finally hit theaters in October, with the former WWE star playing the complicated anti-hero Teth-Adam, who is given demigod powers in the fictional ancient Kahndaq before being imprisoned by the Council of Wizards, and then released in the modern day. Since its release, the film has taken in over $111 million domestically at the box office, which is faster than any DC movie since the release of Aquaman and gives it the potential to overtake the oceanic superhero, which made over $1 billion worldwide during its theater release.Black Adam is the first film of the new DCU era, which introduces new characters and features some old favorites. The Justice Society of America, a team consisting of Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Dr. Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), and Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), are a new band of heroes that have been introduced on-screen, with the potential to feature in future projects. Although it was not clarified why, the team received instructions from Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), which is a possible link between the former DCEU and the new DCU, which has been implemented since James Gunn took on the co-lead role at DC Studios.Related: Black Adam's Biggest DCEU Power Change Isn't What You ThinkTaking to Twitter, Johnson celebrated Black Adam's journey, posting an interview back in 2009 with his friend and MTV News reporter, Josh Horowitz. In the clip, a young Johnson comments that he is "still amped up" to play the role of Black Adam should the opportunity come around but understands that projects like these involve lots of people who all want their creative opinion to be heard. From day 1 of this film's conception, Johnson was one of the people throwing his verdict into the mix on how it should be done, with predictions that one day, if everyone shares the same collective mind, the project would be "badass." Why The Black Adam Movie Took So Long to Make

Even before the film suffered extensive delays due to Covid as well as the demand for VFX houses post-pandemic, there were times that Black Adam was put into motion before being paused. The film's journey started back in 2007, when Johnson was first attached to star, with the initial premise being his character facing off against Shazam, but this was put on hold after scripting issues determined that their stories should be separated into standalone films to give each character breathing space to develop. After many re-writes, Shazam! eventually made it to the theaters in 2019, with Black Adam still trailing behind and rumors of him featuring in the first Suicide Squad being disregarded very quickly before the standalone film was finally released this year.

With the arduous journey that this film has endured, it seems that Johnson is already in talks about the future of the character he has so passionately fought to play since the 2000s. This is positive news for those who have followed the conception of this project for so long, but it could be argued that the film came too little too late while the DCU's future is still very confused. Slow and steady may have won the race for Johnson, but there is space to consider whether Black Adam is enough to save the films yet to come from DC.
