A new video from Black Adam teases the Helmet of Fate's mystical powers. The upcoming DCEU movie is hotly anticipated as it marks the superhero debut of Hollywood's most bankable superstar, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Johnson has been attached to play Black Adam since 2014. Initially, there were plans for him to appear as a villain in Shazam!, but Johnson fought for a solo showcase, and ultimately his character was spun-off into his own movie, which will see the titular anti-hero rising from his 5000-year-long imprisonment in Kahndaq. Wronged and vengeful, Black Adam will set off on an unhinged rampage, thereby attracting the attention of the Justice Society of America.The popular and at-times underrated superhero comics team, the Justice Society of America (JSA), is confirmed to have a major presence in Black Adam. The society will be led by Carter Hall/Hawkman (Aldis Hodge) and Kent Nelson/Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), with Albert "Al" Rothstein /Atom Smasher (Noah Cenitneo) and Maxine Hunkel /Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell) playing the junior members in the group. The JSA will try negotiating peace with Black Adam, although how each member approaches the negotiations with the antihero will be different, potentially causing some internal tensions within the group.
Now, Hodge has shared a new clip from Black Adam on the TODAY show, and it previews the dynamic within the JSA in Black Adam. As the video emphasizes, there are some disagreements within the upper ranks of the JSA as Hawkman and Doctor Fate disagree over the best approach to handling Black Adam. But as they are arguing, Hawkman asks Kent Nelson if the Helmet of Fate showed him something, which interestingly confirms that the artifact gives Doctor Fate a sense of foresight.
Will All Of The JSA Survive Black Adam?
The most exciting thing the video highlights is arguably the immense power the Helmet of Fate wields. Previous Black Adam trailers and teasers have highlighted the magical repository and enhanced intellect the artifact grants, but the new clip stresses that the Helmet of Fate's benefits go way beyond that, putting Kent Nelson in a decidedly advantageous position against Black Adam. However, as seen from the conversation between Hawkman and Doctor Fate, the Helmet of Fate's foresight does not guarantee that the Justice Society of America can survive Black Adam's wrath. While Doctor Fate may not have explicitly mentioned to Hawkman, it's palpable from the video that he doesn't see his peers surviving in the battle against the Kahndaqian force leading him to advise them to join forces with Adam rather than stand against him.
Overall, the new clip really captures the dynamic within the JSA. Hawkman and Doctor Fate lead the JSA in Black Adam, but while Hawkman is chairperson of the society, Doctor Fate is a more mentor-like figure who guides those around him. Hawkman has already been established as a moral counterpart to Black Adam - although he believes in fighting for justice and truth, he does share his rash tendencies with the anti-hero. This is likely where Doctor Fate factors into the story - he acts as the voice of reason for those around him and diplomatically attempts to achieve common ground. Clearly, Doctor Fate has been tasked with a difficult task on both ends, and whether he is successful in bringing the JSA and Adam to the same side will only become clear once Black Adam hits theaters.
