With the holiday season kicking in, Warner Bros. is rolling out the digital release for Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam movie surprisingly early. While the DCU didn't have many releases in 2022, Warner Bros. Discovery finally released Black Adam, which had been in development for several years with Johnson attached as the titular anti-hero. After being stuck in development hell, Johnson finally entered the DCU as Black Adam this October, while also bringing the Justice Society of America to the big screen.

Almost a month after hitting theaters, Warner Bros. is bringing Black Adam home early to consumers. The studio officially announced that Black Adam is available for digital purchase as of today for $24.99, while its 48-hour rental via PVOD is set at $19.99 SRP on various digital platforms. Warner Bros. also disclosed when the DCU installment will be purchasable in physical form, as Black Adam is getting released in 4K ($49.98), Blu-Ray ($39.98) and DVD ($34.98) on January 3, 2023. The digital release, as well as the physical sets, will include the following featurettes, including the history of Black Adam and the Justice Society of America:

When Will Black Adam Be Available To Stream On HBO Max?

While Black Adam is available to purchase digitally, the studio has not put the film up on HBO Max yet. Even though Warner Bros. didn't specify its exact HBO Max date for the time being, with Black Adam arriving in early January, Johnson's DCU film is most likely expected to be available to stream on their platform either on that exact day or at least sometime that month. Usually, the exact HBO Max launch isn't revealed by the studio too much in advance, but rather close to when it's actually about to become available to stream. It's unclear as to why Matt Reeves' The Batman, for example, got put up on HBO Max only a month after its theatrical release, but not Black Adam.

There are a lot of shake-ups going on at HBO Max as a result of the Warner Bros. Discovery merger, which includes the service merging with Discovery Plus in 2023. However, it's safe to say those changes aren't the reason why Black Adam is only available to purchase digitally, and not to stream. Warner Bros. already having Black Adam out on Digital Download was most definitely a way for the studio to be able to take advantage of the holiday season kicking off this week, which will benefit the DCU movie.

Even though Black Adam collected $366.9 million at the global box office, it's still considered a modest commercial success. Unlike Black Panther: Wakanda Forever or The Batman, Black Adam is fairly obscure to the mainstream audience, as is the Justice Society of America. Looking at Shazam! as an example, it had an almost identical box office result to Black Adam, as the Zachary Levi-starring picture pulled in $366.1 million at the box office, starring another fairly obscure DC character as the lead. But for those franchises, it's all about setting a foundation, similar to MCU's Phase 1 movies, as the sequels to several of the standalones performed a lot better after 2012's The Avengers. Hopefully, with Black Adam hitting digital today and becoming available to purchase physically in January 2023, the home release numbers will help Johnson's franchise get closer to getting a sequel greenlit.
