Black Adam star Mohammed Amer explains his character Karim and his relationship to Adrianna Tomaz. Black Adam is the next movie in the DC Extended Universe, coming to theaters on October 21, 2022. Dwayne Johnson will star in the title role as the antihero who originated in the comics as a villain for Shazam. After being imprisoned in the ancient city of Kahndaq, Adam is released in the modern age with godlike powers and teams up with the Justice Society of America, which wants to teach him how to become a legitimate superhero. The film was directed by Jaume Collet-Setta, who previously collaborated with Johnson on the 2021 adventure film Jungle Cruise.

The members of the JSA include its leader Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), and included among the villains they are facing off against is the Intergang, a notorious criminal organization led by Sabbac (Marwan Kenzari). Another key member of the cast is Tomaz, also known as Isis (Sarah Shahi), a professor in Kahndaq who doubles as a resistance fighter. Although she is not part of either organization, she will play a major role in the film.

Recently, Geeks of Color had the opportunity to speak with Amer about his character Karim, who appeared momentarily in the Black Adam trailer. The actor and comedian, who is best known for starring in the TV series Ramy and Mo, says Karim is gentle and "wants nothing to do with anything." However, he is unlikely to get what he wants, considering the fact that Adrianna is his sister, who he describes as "the hero of the movie." Read his full quote below:

His name is Karim, very sweet, loving and wants nothing to do with anything. He's the centerpiece of it all with his sister. My sister is the hero of the movie.

The complicated interrelationships of the characters in Black Adam are still in question, as many plot details still haven't been revealed. This includes the idea of whether Black Adam is truly heroic or not, and the fact that the Justice Society of America may not be as good as they seem to be - or at least, this is a fact that is questioned by Atom Smasher throughout the film. However, Amer's revelation about Karim does lend credence to the rumor that the Intergang will kidnap Isis and Karim and bring them before Adam.

Now that Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Aquaman and the Lost City have been pushed back on the schedule, Black Adam is the final DCEU project set to premiere before the end of the year. There's a lot riding on its success, but it certainly seems that the complicated, antiheroic nature of the character will help make it a distinct presence among the other films in the franchise. Although their first antihero film, Suicide Squad, was a critical flop, James Gunn recently breathed life into the concept. Considering the success of his The Suicide Squad spinoff Peacemaker, the stage is likely set for a very robust box-office run, with audiences enjoying Karim and Isis being caught in the middle of an all-out war between questionable heroes.
