Warning: This article includes MAJOR spoilers for Black Adam. The wait for Black Adam 2 won't be as long as the first movie, promises producers of the Dwayne Johnson-starring franchise. After being attached as the DC icon for over a decade, Johnson has officially entered the DCEU as Black Adam, making this the first time the character has appeared in live-action. It wasn't until January 2017 that Warner Bros. greenlighted Black Adam, letting Johnson have his own solo film rather than star in Shazam! as that was the initial plan. As of this week, Black Adam has finally opened in theaters, telling the tragic backstory of Teth-Adam, a Kahndaq slave who is granted godlike abilities and becomes one of the DCEU's primary anti-heroes.

Black Adam explored Johnson's titular character being freed from his 5000-year-long-imprisonment as he awakens in modern times, discovering what has happened to his home, Kahndaq. While going after Sabbac and the Intergang organization, Black Adam also faced some traditional superheroes in the form of the Justice Society of America. The DCEU installment also concluded with Henry Cavill returning to the DCEU as Superman, teasing a big battle against Black Adam in a future storyline.

While Black Adam is now playing in theaters worldwide, to say that it was a long wait is an understatement, as it was stuck in development hell for a few years until principal photography began in 2021. If Black Adam 2 ends up happening, the creative team aims to get the film out a lot sooner than they did with the first installment. In a new interview with ComicBook, Black Adam producers Hiram Garcia and Beau Flynn spoke about the prospects of a sequel in the coming years. While aware that the first installment took a long time to put together, both producers assured that Black Adam 2 would be made a lot faster. Even though they didn't give away any plot details for Black Adam 2, Flynn and Garcia shared the following:

FLYNN: "Don't worry.”

GARCIA: "This one will be fast. It's not going to take that long. I can promise you that. We aways hope the first domino's the easy one. We'll get cooking on it fast, that's for sure."

FLYNN: "We will open up the magic wagon, we'll have the script ready, pretty fast."

While Black Adam's box office results will be tracked in the coming weeks and months, Warner Bros. Discovery nor DC Films have properly given Black Adam 2 the go-ahead at this point. However, it's believable that they are aiming to get the next film out sooner rather than later. In countless interviews, Johnson and the producers have spoken about how they wanted to get the vision for Black Adam's future right as a franchise and not just the first movie. A reason why it took so long to get Black Adam out to begin could be due to them already knowing what Black Adam 2 and even Black Adam 3 will focus on, which might mean the next sequel will be out within the next two years, if not sooner.

As far as potential storylines go, there is obviously the cliffhanger from Black Adam's post-credit scene with the Superman cameo as he confronted him in Kahndaq. Whether or not they will begin the envisioned long-form storyline between the DC gods in Black Adam 2 or Man of Steel 2 remains to be seen. But it is clear that Cavill's Superman is more or less somewhat involved with the Black Adam franchise. There is also the inevitable Black Adam and Shazam showdown to consider, but that might be saved or Shazam 3. The most logical plot to explore in Black Adam 2 is Teth-Adam protecting Kahndaq and exploring the city re-building itself as a society after Intergang's oppression finally came to an end. However, in order for Black Adam 2 to happen, the first film will need to perform well at the global box office before Warner Bros. Discovery formally announces the movement on any sequels.
