The first official Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) movie poster is released, revealing the full main cast. After debuting in David Ayer's Suicide Squad in 2016, Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn was so well received that multiple DC Comics movies surrounding the character were put into development. The first to officially enter production, though, is Cathy Yan's Birds of Prey, with a script written by Christina Hodson. To announce filming had begun earlier this year, Warner Bros. released a Birds of Prey costume trailer that provided official looks at the characters. More recently, the project began reshoots, all to get ready for the film's February 2020 release date.

The Birds of Prey movie, based on the DC Comics team of the same name, will see Robbie's Harley Quinn team up with superheroes like Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) along with Gotham City police detective Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez). Together, the women will face off against the villainous Black Mask (Ewan McGregor) and Victor Zsasz (Chris Messina) in order to protect the young Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco) - who, in the comics, eventually dons the mantle of Batgirl. Now, after a short Birds of Prey movie teaser screened in theaters with IT Chapter Two, fans can get a new look at the DC movie through the first official poster.

Birds of Prey Harley Quinn Movie Poster

All of the major players in Birds of Prey feature on this poster, but Harley Quinn is the only one included twice - once as the backdrop and again as one of the winged characters flying around her head. That makes sense considering Harley Quinn is arguably the most recognizable DC character of the bunch to casual audiences, especially Robbie's version, which was one of the best received aspects of Ayer's Suicide Squad. Plus, aside from McGregor, Robbie is perhaps the most well-known member of the cast, though Winstead and Perez are also incredibly popular and talented stars in their own right. Altogether, the poster showcases the considerable talent of Birds of Prey, while playing to the movie's most widely recognizable character.

Of course, the poster also loosely references Harley's mental illness, with the characters portrayed with wings flying around her head - an homage to classic cartoons where birds fly around the heads of characters who are dazed or otherwise out of it. As fans saw in Suicide Squad, Harley Quinn was driven mad by the Joker (Jared Leto), and the full title of Birds of Prey hints at her distancing herself from the Clown Prince of Crime. There have been hints that Leto's Joker will appear in Birds of Prey, though nothing's been officially confirmed just yet. Fans may have to wait until the first official Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) trailer is released - but with the debut of this poster, hopefully we won't have to wait much longer for footage.
