A newly released Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) behind-the-scenes video includes brand new footage, including an interrogation scene between Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, Ewan McGregor's Black Mask, and Chris Messina's Victor Zsasz. The upcoming film in Warner Bros.' DC Extended Universe takes Harley out of the Suicide Squad and away from the Joker, teaming her with the girl gang of Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez), and Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco).

Thanks to the film's raucous trailers and colorful marketing, we already have a pretty good idea what the tone of Birds of Prey will be, but plot specifics remain sparse. What we do know is that crime boss Roman Sionis (aka Black Mask) places a hit on a young thief (Cain) after she steals from him a diamond. This leads to Harley, Canary, Huntress, and Montoya - all of whom have their own bone to pick with Black Mask - coming together to take him down and protect Cassandra. The trailers have also featured a scene of Harley listing why Black Mask is gunning for each of the Birds, explaining more of the history between them and the villain, but just why he's after Harley is still a mystery.

This newly released behind-the-scenes featurette includes some extended looks at Harley and the Birds beating up Black Mask's goons, but it also features a new scene in where Harley is interrogated by Roman while Zsasz threatens her with a knife. The scene itself doesn't reveal much about what's going on between Harley and Black Mask outside of the stolen diamond, but it does confirm Harley winds up in his clutches at some point during the film. Check out the behind-the-scenes video below (with the scene of Harley being interrogated found at the roughly the 2:00 mark).

This interrogation scene also offers up at glimpse at the working relationship between Black Mask and Zsasz. It's pretty obvious that Black Mask isn't really one to get his hands dirty - he's even shown wearing gloves in the scene - while it's Zsasz who gets up close and personal with Harley. Having the two villains team up isn't typical of their roles in the comics, but having Black Mask be the brains of the operation while Zsasz does the dirty work is pretty spot on. Trailers have also shown that Roman does, in fact, don the iconic Black Mask in the film, but it remains to be seen if Zsasz is covered in as many scars as he is in the comics (not to mention, if they still represent each of his victims).

In addition to being the first live-action appearance for most of the DC characters in the film who aren't Harley Quinn, Birds of Prey is also Warner Bros.' first R-rated DC superhero movie. The R-rating not only fits with the clearly more adult nature of Birds of Prey (Harley is seen inhaling a big cloud of cocaine, after all) but it also positions the film and Harley herself as something of an answer to Marvel's Deadpool films. In her more recent comic appearances, Harley has been shown to break the fourth wall and speak directly to her audience in a manner like Deadpool, and the voiceover from Harley heard in Bird of Prey trailers implies the movie does something similar. Audiences only have a few more weeks to wait before they find out for themselves.
