A new rumor suggests that the Huntress will appear in DC's Birds of Prey. The film, which may begin shooting sometime in 2019, will focus on a group of female heroes and villains.
Directed by Cathy Yan, Birds of Prey will reportedly feature Suicide Squad's Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie. The success of Suicide Squad and the popularity of Robbie's character has led to the development of four projects centered around Harley Quinn. Of all four, Birds of Prey seems to be the only one moving forward.
Omega Underground reports that one of the heroes joining Harley Quinn in Birds of Prey is the Huntress. Omega Underground believes that Huntress will be joining forces with both Harley Quinn and Batgirl. A Batgirl movie is in development, though the film may be pushed back due to Joss Whedon's decision to step down as director. This means that Batgirl could debut in Birds of Prey prior to the release of her solo film. It's currently unclear which other heroes would be featured in the upcoming all-female team-up movie. Fans shouldn't hold their breath on Catwoman, although Black Canary remains a possibility, as she's previously been the subject of casting rumors.
If the rumor surrounding Huntress proves true, Birds of Prey could give fans an intriguing mix of female heroes. It remains to be seen who Huntress, Batgirl, and Harley Quinn will be facing off with, though some suspect that the film will feature Batman's longtime adversary The Penguin as the villain.
There's no details yet on which of the three versions of Huntress that Birds of Prey would use, though Helena Bertinelli seems like the most likely option. Based on her extremely violent tendencies, Bertinelli's Huntress could fit well into Robbie's vision of the project as an "R-rated girl gang film". Birds of Prey, however, wouldn't be Bertinelli's live-action debut, as the character had a recurring role in season 1 of Arrow. Another well-known version of the character, Helena Wayne, may not work for the overall plans of the DCEU, considering that the character is the daughter of Batman from Earth-2. Giving Batman a daughter could complicate things for future movies that involve the Caped Crusader.
Regardless, including Huntress seems like a logical choice based on the fact that the character has long been associated with the comic book version of the Birds of Prey. The animosity shared between Huntress and Batgirl could also allow for an interesting dynamic, if brought to the big screen.
