Birds of Prey has found a streaming home, set to take its bow on HBO Max in August. DC Films is owned by Warner Bros., so it's of little surprise that HBO Max, a Warner Bros. streaming service, has become the home of the DC Extended Universe. Most of the prominent movies from the DCEU are already available on HBO Max, including Justice League and Wonder Woman. The streaming service is also set to be the originating home of the Snyder Cut of Justice League, one of the most anticipated original properties for HBO Max.

After a disappointing performance at the box office, Birds of Prey became one of the first films to migrate towards the VOD option as the coronavirus pandemic began to shut down movie theaters across the country. It will try to reach a new audience when it finally becomes more widely available for streaming next month, where it will join Harley Quinn's other recent film, Suicide Squad.

Birds of Prey is the next DC addition to HBO Max as Robbie's movie will be added for free streaming to subscribers of the service on August 15. The move to HBO Max will come approximately six months after the film's initial wide release in early February. Birds of Prey is already available on Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD, and DVD, released in those formats in May.

The timing of the movie's move to HBO Max also falls in line with the arrival of some other significant DC properties. Several Batman films will premiere on HBO Max at the start of August, including The Dark Knight. Additionally, the first two seasons of Harley Quinn, the DC Universe animated show starring Kaley Cuoco as the voice of the titular character, will be added to the streaming service at the beginning of the month as well. In essence, HBO Max is cornering the streaming market on any and all things related to Harley Quinn.

Having the DCEU at its disposal has been a valuable marketing tool for HBO Max. While it doesn't technically fit under the DCEU umbrella, HBO Max was prominently featuring clips from Joker as part of its subscription push ahead of its launch on May 27. The streaming service will also add original series from DC in 2021, including Green Lantern series and Justice League Dark. Still, it will be interesting to see if the popularity of Birds of Prey surges after it becomes available on HBO Max streaming for the first time.
