New Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) fan art showcases the film's version of  Black Canary in DC's animated form. The latest film in the DCEU, directed by Cathy Yan, saw Margot Robbie returning to the titular role of Harley Quinn as she reclaims her independence following a nasty breakup with the Joker. Alongside Robbie, the film's other main stars included Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Ewan McGregor as Black Mask, Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz, and Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary.

Despite receiving mostly positive reviews, even ending up being Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, the film wound up fumbling at the box office. Initially, Birds of Prey was projected to earn around $50 million in its opening weekend. Unfortunately, the female-led comic book adaptation fell short by taking in only $33.2 million in its first three days, making it the lowest opening weekend in the history of the DCEU. As disappointing as this news is, the film still has time to turn the tides at the box office. With positive word-of-mouth continuing to circulate, hopefully, more people will make their way to the theaters to take in Harley's adventure with her girl gang. Even fan art has helped in contributing to the positive energy surrounding the film, with one piece even showing off a fan-favorite character from the film.

Digital artist dceugadots redrew Dinah Lance, aka Black Canary, from her original DC Animated Universe character into an animated version of Birds of Prey's Black Canary, which is played by Jurnee Smollett-Bell. It shows off the character "with her new design," because "jurnee is just so amazing." The image features Jurnee's Black Canary wearing a golden top, which she also wears in the film, and looking like she's ready for a fight. Despite being a well-known superhero in DC comics, along with being a part of DC's Animated Universe, Birds of Prey marked Black Canary's live-action debut. It was quite a successful first step into DC's live-action universe as well, since Smollett-Bell's take on the character instantly became a favorite amongst audiences. Considering three other Harley Quinn DCEU films were put into development post-Suicide Squad, it wouldn't be surprising to see the actress reprise the superhero role later down the line. Hopefully, it would be sooner rather than later.

Alongside Birds of Prey, Robbie has also expressed that she'd still love to make a Gotham City Sirens movie. The film, which would center on Harley and a team of female villains including Poison Ivy and Catwoman, was put on hold to focus on DC's latest. With James Gunn's new take on The Suicide Squad also in production, it could be a while before Harley's next venture makes its way to the big screen. Hopefully, Birds of Prey finds more success in the coming weeks so audiences can see more from her and her girl gangs in the future.
