Newly released concept art for Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) shows off excellent alternate hairstyles for Dinah Lance/Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell). As the first R-rated film in the DCEU, Birds of Prey is a fun and colorful take on the female-led group. It arrived in theaters back in February to a less-than-stellar box office total, but scored generally positive reviews from both critics and audiences. The film continues Harley Quinn's (Margot Robbie) DCEU journey while also introducing characters like Black Canary and Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) to the universe. Birds of Prey also stars Rosie Perez, Ella Jay Basco, Chris Messina, and Ewan McGregor.

DC fans were especially excited for the arrival of Smollett-Bell's Black Canary. While the character had been adapted on television, most notably in The CW's Arrowverse, Black Canary had never been featured in a big screen adventure. Smollett-Bell's performance was very well-received, and fans seemed pleased with her take on Black Canary. In Birds of Prey, Dinah starts out working for twisted crime lord Roman Sionis (McGregor) in his club while also operating as an informant for Detective Renee Montoya (Perez). Her signature canary cry didn't come into play until late in the film, but fans were thrilled nonetheless.

Dinah has an awesome sense of style throughout Birds of Prey, one that seems carefully crafted by director Cathy Yan. Concept artist Greg Hopwood shared some alternate hair styles he and Yan came up with on Twitter, and they all seem like they would have been solid choices for Dinah. However, the shorter style would have deprived audiences of the fun moment when Harley offers Dinah a hair tie in the middle of a fight. You can see them down below:

While these designs are all pretty fun, it's safe to say that Dinah's final Birds of Prey look came out really well. Smollett-Bell did an excellent job playing the character, and while no future plans for Dinah (or any of the other Birds of Prey) have been announced, many are hoping she'll get another big screen adventure. Maybe then she can try out one of these other hairstyles.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Birds of Prey has been made available on-demand months earlier than anticipated, and Yan has fully endorsed the move. This means more people can discover the film while staying home and self-quarantining, which could further boost its sequel prospects. Hopefully, fans will get another chance to see Smollett-Bell's Dinah in action later on in the DCEU.
