Bird Box director Susanne Bier has revealed where Felix & Lucy originally took the car in the film. Since its release, Netflix's latest original sci-fi thriller has been receiving a ton of buzz and has also managed to spark a viral challenge, which the streaming platform has warned viewers against. While the movie has been receiving mixed reactions, it has still been a viral sensation and has proven to be a successful addition to Netflix's original film library.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world, the film focuses on a group of survivors as they attempt to fend off unseen entities that are causing members of society to kill themselves upon first glance, after appearing as their worst fears or regrets. Sandra Bullock stars as the film's protagonist, Malorie, a woman who struggles to get her children to safety as they learn to suppress their vision in order to avoid looking at the creatures. Alongside Bullock, the film stars Colson Baker, Rosa Salazar, Trevante Rhodes, John Malkovich, B.D. Wong, Tom Hollander, and Sarah Paulson. Bird Box leaves its audience with many unanswered questions, but one in particular has left viewers scratching their heads, and now Bier has addressed the topic.
During an interview with People Magazine, Bier revealed where Felix and Lucy took the car after abandoning the group. In the movie, there is a scene where the survivors go to a grocery store in order to gather supplies. Bier believes this may be where the two ventured off to after exiting with the car, as Lucy's initial reaction to the store is enough evidence to believe that's where the pair went. When asked about Felix and Lucy's whereabouts, Bier said:
"I think [the grocery store] was their plan, but we don’t know! I think that that’s where they wanna go, but I actually think it’s quite exciting that we don’t know exactly where they went."
As of now, the status of the couple remains unknown, but this can always be explored in a follow-up film. However, addressing what happened to the car wasn't the only question left unanswered, as the film never fully explained the creatures that are terrorizing society. It is easy to see why the two would return to the grocery store, as it would provide them with a large supply of food. Prior to leaving the group, Felix and Lucy were developing an interest in each other, so it would be interesting to see if they are still romantically involved if a sequel ever comes to fruition.
Leaving many plot points unclear, or failing to properly address them, seems to be one of the biggest detractors for Bird Box. Bier deciding to give fans closure regarding Felix and Lucy will certainly put many at ease, as it was one of the biggest questions coming out of the movie. That said, while one of the countless questions may have been answered, there are still several that fans would surely like to have clarified as well in the future.
