According to at least one analyst, a new BioShock game could arrive in 2020. This new title would follow three previous games in the BioShock franchise, which started in 2007. Players and critics hailed the first game for its innovative storyline and gameplay that took players to the 1960s to a ruined city beneath the ocean depths called Rapture. There, players met such iconic characters as Splicers, Little Sisters and Big Daddies and got a chance to explore that world to find out exactly just what happened to it.

Bioshock 2 released in 2010 and allowed players to return to Rapture, but this time they got to do so as a Big Daddy. Although that title didn't receive quite as much acclaim as the first one, it still had a measure of success that spawned a third sequel. That game, BioShock Infinite, took players way above the Earth to a floating city called Columbia. Released in 2013 by Irrational Games, BioShock Infinite continued to earn praise from fans and critics, supposedly sealing the franchise's success. However, the future of the franchise remained uncertain after one of its lead creators, Ken Levine, restructured the company, downsized its staff and rebranded the studio as Ghost Story Games with a focus on narrative titles.

However, it seems that Take-Two Interactive, who owns BioShock publisher 2K Games, still has interest in keeping the BioShock series alive. Games analyst Michael Pachter of Wedbush Securities told Games Industry that he expects to see a new title in the franchise release in 2020.

"We will get major game announcements from Take-Two. I think we'll hear about a new BioShock game and a new title from Rockstar, both for 2020. It would be cheating to say that the company will announce Borderlands, since it will probably happen before this article is published."

Big Daddies In Bioshock

This statement falls in line with a tweet made last year by Kotaku news editor Jason Schreier, who was visiting 2K and saw a top-secret studio there he believed was for work on a new BioShock title. However, BioShock fans must keep in mind that this is all conjecture at this point, although one might think that a games analyst would have accurate inside information before making such a prediction. Several years ago, Take-Two announced that it considered the BioShock franchise a permanent one, so it does seem that it remains committed to the franchise.

In the meantime, fans still have the BioShock Collection to play on current consoles and PC. Considering that the BioShock movie will probably never happen, having a new game in the series to look forward to would make fans of the franchise very happy. Here's hoping an announcement comes in 2019 about the future of BioShock.
