A closer look at Biomutant’s character creator system shows off just how utterly unique players can make their in-game avatars. After originally being announced in 2017, Biomutant was severely delayed, to the point that many were left wondering if the project had actually been shelved altogether. However, almost four years after it was first shared with the world, Biomutant finally secured a release date earlier this year. Since then, developer Experiment 101 and publisher THQ Nordic have been slowly revealing more details and teasers surrounding their post-apocalyptic game.

While a lot of Biomutant’s story has been left a relative unknown, THQ Nordic has revealed that the game takes place in a world that is slowly dying, after a natural disaster caused poisonous oil to rise to the surface. This oil tainted the Tree of Life and caused mutations to occur across the lands. During the game, players can choose to either save the Tree of Life, or instead let it die. This is done by siding with or defeating the various warring clans that are found within Biomutant’s world.

But of course, before any narrative decisions can be made by Biomutant players, the character with which they will traverse this beautiful and polluted setting with must be created. A video from Game Informer has given fans an in-depth breakdown of how this is done and shows just how incredibly unique each character can be. In the video, players can see how they not only get to choose the breed of their avatar, but also its many distinguishable attributes. As these attributes are altered, so is the character’s physical appearance. A character with more charisma will have a broader smile showing, while a character with more intellect will have a much bigger head. Players can then go on to choose their character’s specific area of resistance, as well as customizing the fur, the color, and the class of their Biomutant character.

Along with the five standard classes available already within Biomutant, there is also a sixth bonus class. The Mercenary class is a Biomutant pre-order perk that will offer players the option to duel-wield weapons from the start, as well as providing their avatar with a katana. Biomutant’s devs have already stated that the game takes a lot of inspiration from Kung-Fu and other martial arts, making this inclusion of the katana a nice additional touch for players who pre-order the game.

The level of detail in Biomutant’s character customization alone shows just how much love has gone into the fantastical RPG. As players explore the many colorful biomes within Biomutant, they will be doing it with a character that is just as unique as they are, making the whole experience a much more personal one. After four years of anticipation, the long wait for Biomutant is slowly coming to an end, but it already looks set to be absolutely worth the extra time that it took to release.
