American actor and forthcoming star of Alien: Covenant Billy Crudup is lining up his next starring role in the form of a new Richard Linklater film titled Where'd You Go, Bernadette. After recently backing out of a deal to feature in the forthcoming DC Extended Universe film The Flash - and following prior starring turns in everything from the Zack Snyder directed comic book movie Watchmen from 2009 to the Cameron Crowe directed rock n' roll comedy Almost Famous from 2000 - Crudup is a well established actor with plenty of feature film credits to his name.

Following his blockbuster turn soon to be in this week's theatrical release of the Ridley Scott directed science-fiction franchise film Alien: Covenant, fans of Crudup might be wondering what projects the celebrated performer might consider appearing in next. Never one to stay rooted in one kind of role for too long, Crudup is a proven actor possessed of an enviable versatility that has made him an attractive choice to a wide array of filmmakers - and the latest word has Crudup landing a starring role in the latest Richard Linklater film Where'd You Go, Bernadette.

According to Deadline, Crudup has just joined production on the Linklater directed Where'd You Go, Bernadette, and is set to star opposite starring turns from the likes of Cate Blanchette and Kristen Wiig. Based on the book of the same name written by Maria Semple, the new movie is about a missing mother named Bernadette (Blanchette) who mysteriously goes missing in Seattle, thus leaving her daughter and husband (Crudup) to pick up the pieces alongside a character named Audrey (Wiig).

Billy Crudup Cast in Where'd You Go, Bernadette

First published in 2012, the novel by Semple enjoyed a full year on The New York Times bestseller list, and as such should make for more than suitable fodder for Linklater to sink his teeth into as production commences on the Where'd You Go, Bernadette movie. Likewise, Crudup is a more than attractive lead actor for Linklater to cast in a major supporting role, and as such the rest of the movie should serve to come together swimmingly with Blanchette and Wiig already in place.

After serving to please critics with his sequel to the cult-classic comedy Dazed and Confused in the form of the 1980s-themed throwback Everybody Wants Some!! from 2016, Linklater is definitely embarking into more dramatic territory with the forthcoming Where'd You Go, Bernadette. With any luck, Crudup will manage to match the performances offered by fellow co-stars Blanchette and Wiig, and Linklater fans will be in for a new movie in keeping with the tonal sensibilities of the director's Oscar winning Boyhood from 2014.
