The financial-based character drama Billions season 7 has been officially confirmed by Showtime. The series, which debuted in 2016, originally starred Homeland’s Damian Lewis as money magnate Bobby ‘Axe’ Axelrod. Axe’s rivalry with attorney general Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti) made for hours of gripping entertainment as audiences tuned in to Billions season 1 to 6 to watch the show's entangled web of treacherous tycoons. Other cast members include Maggie Siff, David Costabile and Condola Rashad.

Following the conclusion of Billions season 5, Lewis announced his surprise departure from the show, with Axe written out in favor of Corey Stoll’s Mike Prince. Prince has quickly become the top dog in the Billions roster, and taken Axe's place as the new rival to Giamatti’s Rhoades. Despite the potentially polarising character change, Billions season 6 has continued to draw in viewing figures, and the potential for future seasons remains high.

Now, Showtime has seemingly confirmed this to be the case, announcing the renewal of Billions for season 7 with its current leads. TV Line reports that the network is satisfied with the ratings of the risky new season 6, which is currently on air weekly, and has green-lit another outing. Despite mixed reviews, the latest episodes of the hit drama have continued to pull in high figures. While no specific story details have been revealed, Billions season 7 will likely continue the double-crossing and confrontations between Mike, Chuck and the rest of the gang.

Following the exit of the fan-favorite Axe after Billions season 5, the drama has managed to maintain its momentum, continuing to compel audiences even without its original lead. The series is now one of Showtime’s biggest assets, along with new programming like Yellowjackets and Dexter: New Blood. The show has also proved a boost in popularity and recognition for Stoll, who played Darren Cross in 2015’s Ant-Man. Stoll has lately been rumored to return to the MCU in the upcoming film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Fans of the Showtime drama will be thrilled to hear that, despite the turbulent and transformative Billions season 6, the drama is as strong as ever. What's more, the confirmation of a season 7 gives uncertain audiences even more time to warm to the new central character of Mike Prince. Billions season 6 certainly required an adjustment to the show’s fresh perspective, but now it seems that Mike won't be going anywhere anytime soon.
