Chuck Rhoades and Bobby ‘Axe’ Axelrod aim to leave their enemies with nothing as the two form an unlikely alliance in the new teaser for Billons season 4. There are few television series that are as flat-out entertaining as Showtimes’ star-studded series, as the show makes great use of its cast as its creators’ knowledge of and obsession with popular culture, which often results in memorable quotes and references to everything from movies to sports to music, and when Brian Koppleman and Davie Levien need to make a particularly serious point, they can always turn to history, as they do here when Chuck (Paul Giamatti) threatens Bryan Connerty (Toby Leonard Moore) by saying he’ll “roll over you like it's Tiananmen Square.”

That’s just not the sort of thing someone would say in any other show, at least not with that kind of conviction, and that’s a big part of what makes Billions so endlessly watchable. This upcoming season will offer a whole new reason to tune in, however, as the events of the season 3 finale have put Chuck and Axe (Damian Lewis) in a position where, as the trailer states, they’re “not enemies, not friends” and certainly “not f***ing around.” And because it’s Billions someone hammers the point hammers the point home saying, “They’re tighter than AC/DC in ’78.”

Whether or not that comment is specifically referring to Chuck and Axe’s newfound alliance remains to be seen, but given what this new look at the upcoming season suggests their blood feud has been set aside in the interest of attending to some very personal grievances. Chuck and Axe have been at one another’s throats for roughly two and half seasons, and while their rivalry can pick up again at any time, it’s exciting to see them on one another’s side — so long as it remains mutually beneficial. And with the two each having clear cut adversaries this season, like the aforementioned Connerty, as well as his boss Waylon ‘Jock’ Jeffcoat (Clancy Brown), as well as the recently independent Taylor Mason (Asia Kate Dillon), the usual fireworks now stand a chance of doing some actual damage.

At any rate, it’s just about a month until the new season starts, and from the look of things Billions season 4 is going to be one heck of a ride.
