Late actress Carrie Fisher's daughter, Billie Lourd, shared a childhood photo with her mother on what would be her 65th birthday. Fisher passed away in 2016 after a medical emergency on a flight from London to LA. The day after, Fisher's mother, Debbie Reynolds, passed away from a stroke. Lourd, now 29, was left to deal with the tragic loss of her mother and grandmother within a 24-hour period. In September 2020, Lourd gave birth to her son, Kingston, with fiancé Austen Rydell, also an actor. Lourd has appeared in numerous film and TV projects, including the Olivia Wilde-directed comedy Booksmart, as well as a recurring role in American Horror Story.

Fisher's career took off at the age of 19 when she portrayed Princess Leia for George Lucas' Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, which made the actress into a cultural icon ever since. Her name is synonymous with the character, although she acted in many other films throughout her career. Fisher was also a renowned author, screenwriter, playwright, and script doctor. She wrote and performed the autobiographical one-woman play, Wishful Drinking, in 2006, which later became an HBO special, and published several semi-autobiographical and autobiographical works throughout her life, the latest being "The Princess Diarist," which chronicles her time filming the first Star Wars film. Fisher returned to the Star Wars franchise for 2015's The Force Awakens and again for 2018's The Last Jedi, reprising the role of Leia (now General Leia). Lourd also starred in the films, playing a rebel soldier named Lieutenant Connix. Lourd would appear in The Rise of Skywalker as well, a film that brought Fisher back as Leia with archival footage.

On what would be her 65th birthday, Lourd shared a childhood photo of her and her mother, together and looking happy. Actor Mark Hamill also shared an image of himself and Fisher on the anniversary, which shows the love for the late actress is still very much alive. Take a look at Lourd's  post below:

In an episode of the New Day Podcast, Lourd said of her mother that, “She was the greatest, funniest person ever. She was my best f–king friend ever. There’s no one who will ever be as funny as she is. She was just — she is amazing.” Lourd hasn't shied away from the trauma and grief of her loss, instead highlighting it in order to cope and help others with similar tragedies and how to overcome them. The actress is also focusing steadily on her career and is currently filming the comedy Ticket to Paradise, which stars George Clooney, Julia Roberts and her Booksmart co-star, Kaitlyn Dever.

Lourd has continually shared peeks at her life on Instagram since Fisher's passing, highlighting her own childhood, her career, her family, and more. For fans all over the world, the loss of both Fisher and Reynolds has been tragic, but none so much as Lourd, who has struggled to find a balance between her public and private life in the wake of her loss. For anyone who follows the actress on social media or has heard her speak of the tragedy, Lourd has proven to be a resilient, joyful, and inspiring presence, which would surely make her mother and grandmother proud as she carries on their legacy.
