Here's why Bill & Ted's group the Wyld Stallyns are the greatest (fictional) rock band of all time. The pair made their first appearance in 1989's Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, played by Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves. Bill & Ted are a pair of lazy high-school students who'd rather focus on their band the Wyld Stallyns than school. They soon come to learn their music will literally change the world in the future, so a time-traveler takes them on a trip to meet famous historical figures so they'll pass an important test; if they fail, the Wyld Stallyns will never form.
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure was a delightful comedy that became a surprise success and helped make Keanu Reeves a movie star. The duo soon returned for 1991's Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, a sequel that's arguably better than the original. In this follow-up, a pair of robot doppelgangers are sent to murder the duo so the future utopia won't happen, but after defeating the Grim Reaper in a series of games, Bill & Ted get a second chance at life and return to defeat the robots. The franchise also received an animated show - with Winter and Reeves returning to voice the pair for the first season - and a short-lived live-action show in 1992.
A third film titled Bill & Ted Face The Music is finally in production after being trapped in development for nearly a decade. The new movie will find the middle-aged Bill & Ted realizing they haven't changed the world with the music of the Wyld Stallyns, and they need to hurry up. When the band is first introduced in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure the duo can barely play their instruments, but the sequel would explain how they became rock gods.
The Wyld Stallyns is made up of Bill & Ted on guitar and vocals, with their girlfriends Elizabeth and Joanna on keys and drums. The Grim Reaper himself later joins on bass while alien Station plays the bongos. While the music of the Wyld Stallyns is obviously most excellent, the end credits of Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey reveals how their music changed the world, including achieving peace in the Middle East and the discovery that air guitar reduces smog. Their music leads to first contact between mankind and aliens, and they even play a gig on Mars.
Sadly, the Wyld Stallyns are fictional so their music isn't likely to create a real-world utopia, but it will still be great to catch up with the band in Bill & Ted Face The Music. Hopefully, the finale of the third movie will be the fabled Wyld Stallyns Mars gig.
