Bill and Ted want to play the halftime show at next year's Super Bowl, an event scheduled six months after the release of Bill and Ted Face the MusicPresumably, that means stars Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter would perform in-character as the goofy duo in front of a sold-out crowd of thousands. Of course, the whole thing could merely be a smart marketing move to get people talking (and writing) about the upcoming sequel.

Reeves and Winter first played the characters in the 1989 time-traveling comedy, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. The film followed the heavy metal-loving Ted Theodore Logan (Reeves) and Bill S. Preston Esquire (Winter) as they go from practicing for their band, the Wyld Stallyns, to traveling through time in a telephone booth. The overall tone of the film resonated with late-80's audiences and propelled Reeves into stardom. A sequel, Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, hit theaters in 1991. The second movie didn't capture the box office magic of its predecessor but connected with fans enough to leave them wanting more. It took 30 years of development (and several false starts) for Reeves and Winter to finally return to the franchise in Bill and Ted Face the Music, which was officially announced in 2018.

The official Twitter account for Bill and Ted Face the Music asked their 113.6k followers if they would want to see the Wyld Stallyns play in the 2021 Super Bowl halftime show. "Bodacious halftime show! Next year, Wyld Stallyns? Whaddya say, Twitter dudes?" the Bill and Ted account asked. The tweet has been shared 652 times and racked up 4,000 likes as of this writing. One of the most notable replies to the tweet came from Walmart, who promised to provide all of the band's merch. Take a look at the exchange below:

The Walmart connection is no coincidence. Earlier in the game, a commercial for Walmart aired featuring Winter as Ted in a cameo. All of this is in service of promoting Bill and Ted Face the Music, due in theaters August 21, 2020, to a broader audience that may not already have the movie on their radar. After the thirty-year absence, it would be a shame for the movie to bomb at the box office due to lack of audience awareness - especially if writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon deliver a sequel die-hard fans enjoy.

If Bill and Ted Face the Music ends up critically and commercially successful film, perhaps an appearance at the Super Bowl isn't as impossible as it seems. It's unlikely, but stranger things have happened at the halftime show. Plus, who wouldn't want to see the Wyld Stallyns take the stage and totally shred some gnarly chords until we're all just dust in the wind, dude.
