Bill Hader reacts to meeting his idol, Dateline's Keith Morrison. Since his early days on Saturday Night Live, actor/comedian Bill Hader has gone on to build a comfortable career with a dedicated following. Though he joined the cast of SNL at the same time as other big names like Kristen Wiig and Andy Samberg, Hader’s brand of comedy differed from his peers, relying more on subtlety and obscure references.

Perhaps because of his unique comedic style, some might argue that Hader was overshadowed during his SNL years by much more flamboyant performances from his co-stars. But by the time Hader decided to leave SNL, it became obvious that the comedian wasn’t really looking to match the style of comedy he’d been a part of for the previous eight years. What’s more, Hader didn’t seem to be looking to create films and characters based largely on spoof - as has been a longstanding tradition with some of SNL’s most well-known alumni. Instead, Hader appeared to be content with small, subtle, roles that sometimes weren't even comedic at all.

Because of his somewhat reserved celebrity status, many people are unaware of the vast array of impressions that Hader has mastered over time. As is the case with his comedy, these impressions often take aim at obscure sources, like Jabba the Hut, Alan Alda and Dateline host Keith Morrison. In fact, it’s an ongoing impression of Morrison that has prompted Today (via their YouTube channel), to surprise Hader with a face-to-face meeting with the one and only,Morrison. Check it out below:

For those who may have previously questioned whether Hader is actually a fan of Morrison rather than just poking fun at the Dateline host, the above video makes the truth abundantly clear. Though he later admits that he knew Morrison was going to turn up, Hader still comes across as star struck, delighted to have met his hero. It’s a great moment for Hader, whose star continues to rise as of late, especially as a result of his Emmy-winning HBO series Barry, as well as a host of upcoming films such as the much anticipated IT: Chapter Two, in which Hader plays the adult version of Finn Wolfhard's IT character, Richie Tozier.

For fans of Hader, it might seem as though the comedian has been taking his time with his career, working on small projects that he has an affinity for rather than larger scale, higher paying work. This might have been Hader’s intent all along – to build up his career into something that grows with time, instead of putting himself out there at every opportunity, whether it suits his style or not. It definitely seems as though time is on Hader’s side, however, as his career appears to be in a very comfortable place. And while bigger and better roles come along, the ultimate hope for many Hader fans is to one day see the star showcase his filmmaking talents as a writer and director. Until then, the more obscure the impressions and characters, the better.
