Even Bill Gates plays Wordle, and the world-famous tech mogul and co-founder of Microsoft has opened up about his strategies for figuring out the daily word puzzle. Since it was first launched last October, there has been a new Wordle puzzle every day - a five-letter word that players need to figure out in six guesses by submitting possible answers and deducing which letters belong in which colored block based on the game’s responses. Wordle has caught the attention of billions of players worldwide, and there have been several unofficial video-game-based Wordle variants centered around players trying to guess a certain song from a Kirby game or piece of Fortnite trivia.

Wordle's ever-growing popularity means that many celebrities and public figures play and discuss it regularly - with noteworthy examples including US Vice President Kamala Harris and nighttime talk show host/Among Us player Jimmy Fallon. As it turns out, none other than Bill Gates is among the list of big-name Wordle enthusiasts, and he has plenty of sound advice for anyone looking for an easier time guessing the daily Wordle.

Bill Gates recently discussed his own Wordle habits on his personal blog, dubbed GatesNotes.com, in which he revealed that he’s been playing the game as part of his morning routine since either February or March. For his first guess, Gates likes to start with a word that contains a lot of vowels, such as “audio,” “ounce,” or even “adieu.” From there, he looks for consonants that often go next to each other like C and H or S and L - as well as the ones that are never paired together like Q, V, X, and Z. Gates also notes that sometimes the daily Wordle answer starts with a vowel (he used the word “caged” as an example of a vowel being used as the second and fourth letters) and that the same letter could be used more than once - as was the case when one Wordle solution was “tasty.” Lastly, Gates advises players to be aware of more rarely-used words in the English language like “smite,” “duchy,” and “tryst. A real challenge comes when the last four letters of the Wordle clue are something like “I-G-H-T,” as there are several words that end like this, and it could be easy to run out of guesses. Bill Gates' Wordle advice can also be seen in a recent video on his official YouTube channel.

Bill Gates goes on to list some of the other Wordle variants he regularly plays aside from the regular edition, such as Quordle, which requires four Wordle answers, and the eight-word Octordle. He also plays the math-based Nerdle (in which the player has to solve a math equation instead of figure out a word) - which he notes is more in line with his own skills and interests, but he doesn't have a lot of friends and family to play it with. Indeed, Gates also takes note of the social aspect of Wordle and games like it, as every player has the same puzzle and can discuss how they solved it on social media.

Bill Gates is world-renowned in his fields of technology and industry, and his advice for figuring out the daily Wordle challenge is quite sound in regard to spelling and phonics within the English language. Now players can use these tips to solve today’s Wordle on their own, or at least be ready for the next one the following day.
