The animation skills and voice acting in anime are excellent. The time it takes to develop each episode takes time, and recently, the team behind Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero have discussed their new approach to their technique of animating the series. Many animation teams have done this in the past, but that's not the only thing that continues to occur.

Plenty of tropes and trends occur in manga and anime series. One of these common tropes that many fans seem to point out is that almost every manga and anime have a misanthropic character, otherwise known as a character who hates other human beings and goes out of their way to avoid them, and there are a lot of characters that fit that description.

Ichise From TexhnolyzeStill shot of Ichise.

When there is an underground city ruled by various criminal factions and plenty of gangs plus a rare substance known as "Texhnolyze," you have a recipe for disaster and a great story. The story Texhnolyze has just that and more.

He also tends to lose his cool at the most inappropriate of times, has no problem hurting people, and shows barely any guilt if he does so. Amidst his violent tendencies is also some misanthropy, he's very quiet and rarely socializes with other people. While he gets a little better later on in the series, he is still reserved and only talks when he needs to or when asked a question.

Plenty of anime and manga have their protagonist as a misanthrope, including OreGairu. The anime's plot sets it all up as it centers around Hikigaya Hachiman, who is forced to join a volunteer service after writing an essay mocking modern-day relationships.

Hachiman comes off as being cynical, semi-nihilistic, stoic, and prideful. He is also known for being very apathetic and somewhat narcissistic and refuses to accept any kind of sympathy, pity, and charity. While Hachiman is not a bad person and has a sensitive side, he cannot express his feelings properly and has become a loner.

Kyon From Suzumiya Haruhi No Yuuutsu

There are many great anime storylines that take place in a high school setting. The high school setting works for many storylines, especially when one of the main characters is a misanthropist, such as Kyon from Suzumiya Haruhi No Yuuutsu.

Aside from his snarky and cynical characteristics, Kyon is not the kind of person to show or admit that he cares about anyone. Even when thinking about his friends, he mentally calls them idiots. He does not hate those closest to him, but from how he holds himself to how he acts around them, he comes off as being very standoffish and annoyed by their antics.

Yūsuke Yotsuya From I'm Standing On A Million Lives

Not every misanthrope that viewers see in an anime will be the villain. As previously shown, protagonists have been depicted as the misanthrope just as much as antagonists. The series I'm Standing On A Million Lives is amongst the ones that have the main character as the misanthrope.

Sasuke Uchiha From Naruto

Naruto is known for his upbeat personality and go-get-'em attitude. It's why so many fans adore him! But there is always that one character that is the opposite.

Sasuke is known for being a loner and not being one to relate well with others or show his emotions. It still amazes many fans that he has been able to stay in a long, romantic relationship with his wife Sakura, despite initially calling her annoying. However, he does not show much affection towards Sakura and leaves her and their daughter for long periods of time, inevitably making it hard for his daughter to connect with him. Because of his misanthropic tendencies and detachment from his emotions, his daughter at one point heartbreakingly even ends up questioning whether he loved her mom or not.

Seijuro Hiko From Rurouni Kenshin Image of Seijuro Hiko From Rurouni Kenshin.

Rurouni Kenshin is an older manga and anime and is considered one of the best deconstruction anime. The first release of the anime was in 1996 and ended in 1999. The story revolved around a young wandering swordsman who stumbles upon a struggling martial arts school in Meiji-era Japan. One of the many characters who just so happens to be a misanthrope is the character Seijuro Hiko.

Seijuro Hiko is known for being an unpleasant individual who cares very little about those around him. While he did take in Kenshin, it was only after he saw Kenshin's inner strength, kindness, and determination to keep going. Despite the random act of kindness, Hiko is a man known for being sarcastic, egotistical, and a punishing taskmaster. Even Kenshin described his personality as "twisted, brusque and misanthropic."

Thorfinn From Vinland SagaStill shot of Thorfinn.

For those interested in historical animes, there are a few choices out there to pick from. One that is highly recommended is the Vinland Saga, where the main character pursues a journey to take revenge on his father's killer, and is also a misanthrope.

Like others before him, Thorfinn didn't start out as a misanthrope. Originally, Thorfinn was a very kind, friendly boy looking for adventures. However, after his father's death and joining the Askeladd's band, he was a cold-blooded individual who was uninterested in others and very antisocial.

Yut-Lung From Banana FishYut-Lung From Banana Fish still shot.

Stories of redemption can be some of the best storylines, especially when it's about a youth trying to get back on the right track. Banana Fish is a great example of such a story, and it provides plenty of roadblocks for the protagonist to overcome.

Playing the role of one of the roadblocks and a great antagonist, Yut-Lung is the youngest son of the most prominent crime family in China. He is very quiet and stoic most of the time and presents himself as a regular, polite, and harmless individual. This is just a mask he wears to conceal his ruthless, calculating, resentful, cold-hearted self, filled with hatred and the need for revenge, doing whatever it takes to achieve that goal no matter who stands in the way.

Light From Death Note

Still shot of Light.

Despite the series having a controversial conclusion, the anime version of the manga Death Note is still considered a popular series. The premise and its characters caught the attention of a wide audience, Light being one of the characters that received a lot of attention.

Even before finding the Death Note, Light was not particularly sociable and preferred to spend a lot of time alone in his room. He showed detachment from those around him long before the story turns him from misanthrope into master manipulator.

Genjo Sanzo From Saiyuki

Alongside Rurouni Kenshin, Saiyuki is another older manga and anime with plenty of entertaining characters. The plot involves four protagonists going west to try and stop the resurrection of a powerful demon imprisoned for thousands of years. Out of the four is a rogue, misanthrope priest named Genjo Sanzo.

Genjo Sanzo prefers peace and quiet, cigarettes, and alcohol rather than being around people, despite having a companion that he's been taking care of for years. However, even the companion isn't safe from being smacked on the head and called a stupid monkey. His other companions are also not safe because if they annoy him, he threatens to shoot them. The same goes for anyone who irritates him or decides to stand in his way.
