Gangsters get lonely too and nowhere else was this more evident than in the FX series Sons of Anarchy. Love was always in the air in Charming, and so was lust. Most of the main characters found themselves in romantic pairings that either thrived or turned out to be very disastrous.

In the entire series, the only key SAMCRO members who never hooked up with anyone were Juicy and Happy. However, those who were lucky enough to have partners didn't always treat them right. But others went above and beyond to prove their love. The following are gestures that easily translated to the words "I love you."

Jax's Unique Proposal

Sons of Anarchy - Jax and Tara

In Season 4's premiere episode Jax and Tara made love after which he proposed to her. And he did so in the cutest way possible, by putting the engagement ring on their son Thomas' finger and waiting for Tara to notice it.

Tara said "yes" but there was a "but" in it. She wanted assurances that their children would be raised right, away from all the violence in Charming. Jax thus promised her that he would leave SAMCRO. He explained that was only planning on staying Clay stepped down. This never happened. Instead, more violence kept coming.

John Teller's Letters To Maureen Ashby

Maureen Ashby Sons of Anarchy

Love letters are always a good romantic gesture and Jax's father John "JT" Teller wrote a lot of them. JT normally sent the letters to his Irish mistress Maureen Ashby, telling her about his fears and conflicts.

What's impressive about the letters is that she was the only person he trusted enough to give that much information. The letters would end up causing plenty of problems in the future, thanks to the incriminating information that was in them. The fact that Maureen kept them for so long also proved how much she loved JT.

Wayne Unser Puts His Life On The Line For Gemma

Unser refuses to let Jax take Gemma in Sons Of Anarchy

Unser proved just how seriously he took the phrase "I'd catch a bullet for you." As soon as Jax found out that his mother Gemma had killed Tara, there was never any doubt that he was going to make her pay. And in the SAMCRO world, there was only one way that people were made to pay.

After days of searching for her, Jax tracked her down and found her. However, Unser showed up too to arrest her in order to save her from getting Jacky Boy Justice. Jax gave Unser the chance to walk away but he declined, uttering the now infamous words, "She is all I have left." Dying for someone you love really means a lot.

Tig And Venus Confess Their Love For Each Other

Tig and Venus profess their love for each other in Sons of Anarchy

Tig never looked like the kind of person to settle down. He would sleep with almost every single person he met. It was thus surprising when he decided to make things official with the transgender woman Venus (Walton Goggins).

Venus was the first to confess her love for him, even addressing him by his official name: "I’m afraid, Alexander, that I may have fallen in love with you.” In return, Tig confessed that he always had trouble settling down but he loved her too and was willing to make things work with her. Beautiful!

Nero and Gemma in Sons of Anarchy

In Season 5, Gemma got drunk and had a one night stand with Nero, who she had never meant before. When she woke up, she was neither aware of who she was or where she was, so she pulled her gun on him. He was very caring, explaining to her exactly what happened and told her to call a cab. He then gave her his business card.

Gemma left but came back later. She and Nero proceeded to introduce themselves officially to each other. As she left, she handed Nero back his business card. He flipped it over to find her phone number written on it. This was proof that she was very open to dating him. And date they did.

Opie And Lyla's Wedding

Opie and Lyla Wedding in Sons of Anarchy

The death of Opie's first wife Donna hit him hard in the first season. Eventually, he accepted that fate can sometimes be cruel and moved on. He went on to fall for Lyla and even tried to get her out of the porn business by impregnating her. The two had numerous fights and it looked like nothing would work between them.

Despite knowing that she secretly took birth control pills to avoid getting pregnant, Opie's love for Lyla never faded. He went on to marry her in the Season 4 premiere. This was the only major wedding ceremony in the entire series, though the Sons also used it as a cover to retaliate against the Russians for going after Jax when he was locked up.

Jax Tells Abel That Wendy Is Her Mother

Jax and Wendy

Jax spent most of the series fighting Wendy but deep down, he always loved her because she was the mother of his child. Wendy made plenty of mistakes earlier in her life but she had reformed and was willing to get back in her son's life. However, Jax wasn't willing to let that happen at first.

Things changed in Season 7 when he decided to tell Abel that Wendy was in fact his real mother. He also tasked Wendy with taking care of both of his children when he was 'gone.' He even made sure to organize anew home for them to live at Nero's farm. This gesture meant a lot to Wendy.

At the start of Season 2, Tara agreed to be become Jax's officially Old Lady and integrate herself fully into the club's activities, even though they weren't officially married. She was more than willing to do everything Jax of the club wanted, including treating members for free. The compromise she made and the risks she took were proof enough of true love.

Jax Makes A Deal To Protect Tara

Tara opens up to Jax about how complicated their love is

In Season 6 District Attorney Tyne Patterson was bringing hell to SAMCRO. She not only wanted to take down the club but also Tara for the murder of Pamela Toric. She didn't care that Tara was innocent.

As a caring lover, Jax went to see Tara at the motel where she was hiding and told her that he'd made a deal with Patterson to turn himself in in order to protect her and the club. Sacrificing his freedom and his position as president in order to protect the woman he loved was truly an impressive gesture.
