Hugh Jackman jokingly comments on how Big Mouth creators convinced him to voice a talking penis. Big Mouth is a Netflix animated show from Nick Kroll, Andrew Goldberg, Mark Levin, and Jennifer Flackett, focusing on teens (based on Kroll and Goldberg) growing up in New York while going through puberty. The sitcom just debuted its fifth season and is renewed all the way through to a sixth season. The show stars Kroll, John Mulaney, Jenny Slate (though she exited after season 3 and was replaced by Ayo Edebiri in season 4), Jessi Klein, Jason Mantzoukas, Fred Armisen, Maya Rudolph, Jordan Peele, and Andrew Rannells, with a long list of recurring and guest stars.

Jackman is the A-list star of film and stage, recently appearing in director Lisa Joy's film Reminiscence. He has a long and distinguished career, most notably playing the sharp-clawed mutant Wolverine in the X-Men franchise, and has starred in a number of stage/screen musicals, from Oklahoma! to The Boy From Oz to a feature production of The Greatest Showman. He's also lent his voice to a number of animated films, including movies like Happy Feet, Rise of the Guardians, and Missing Link.

Jackman appears in the Big Mouth season 5 episode "No Nut November" where he voices a talking penis with the unmistakable hair, abs, and accent of the Australian actor. In a Twitter post, a user pointed out that they didn't know how Kroll and Goldberg were able to convince Jackman to voice a talking penis, noting that the animators even gave the phallus abs. Jackman responded to the Tweet, saying that the abs were "nonnegotiable". Check out the exchange below:

Having just wrapped The Son with Anthony Hopkins and Vanessa Kirby, Jackman is next slated to start production on Michael Mann's Enzo Ferrari biopic in the titular role. He's also rumored to be leading The Good Spy, based on the book by Kai Bird (Oppenheimer), and is also preparing to play the Apostle Paul for writer/director Matt Cook (Triple 9). Jackman has hung up the claws on playing Wolverine/Logan, but has hinted he'd return for a sequel to the cult sci-fi boxing franchise Real Steel, especially after it had a resurgence recently on Netflix.

Hugh Jackman voicing a talking penis that looks like him is as meta as it gets, but the actor has always had a playful sense of humor that he's shown in interviews, social media, and general interactions with fans. The actor has gone meta before, voicing himself in a Wolverine poster in the 2015 film Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, and continues a faux beef with actor Ryan Reynolds, which has played out for years. Jackman has famously leaned up each time he's played Wolverine, seemingly getting more and more shredded from film to film during his run, so it makes perfect sense that the abs would be nonnegotiable, even if it's just a talking animated penis. Jackman has worked hard for those abs, so the expectation that they'd appear in any incarnation of his likeness is certainly understandable.
