Netflix unveils the first key art for Big Mouth season 5 revealing that the Emmy-winning animated series will return on November 5. Co-created by Andrew Goldberg, Nick Kroll, Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett, the series revolves around a group of teenage 7th graders, namely Nick Birch, Andrew Glouberman and their friends, as they navigate their way through the struggles of puberty. In a unique twist, Big Mouth sees the teens interacting with personified people and objects who attempt to offer advice for their puberty foils, including Maurice the Hormone Monster, Connie the Hormone Monstress, the ghost of Duke Ellington and a pillow capable of getting pregnant.

In addition to co-creating and executive producing the series, Kroll stars in Big Mouth as Nick and Maurice alongside producer John Mulaney as Andrew, Jessi Klein, Jason Mantzoukas, Jenny Slate, Ayo Edebiri, Fred Armisen, Maya Rudolph, Jordan Peele and Andrew Rannells. The series has received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike since its premiere in 2017, garnering seven Primetime Emmy Award nominations and three wins, two of which went to Rudolph for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance. This success saw Netflix renew Big Mouth through season 6 and give a straight-to-series order for the in-universe spin-off Human Resources.

Big Mouth Season 5 Key Art

The impending arrival of Big Mouth season 5 should come as exciting news for fans following the emotional season 4 finale that saw Nick conquer his evil persona while still hinting at the return of Tito the Anxiety Mosquito to torture its central group in coming seasons. The next chapter of the Emmy-winning animated series also brings with it a change in casting as Edebiri takes over the role of Misty from Slate, who elected to step down from the part in the wake of the George Floyd protests so that a Black actress could portray the role. Edebiri was first heard as Misty in the penultimate episode of season 4, with the creators teasing her story arcs will become more reflective of this shift in the hopes of offering better representation for the character.

While the majority of Big Mouth has focused on the struggles of puberty in young teens, it's intriguing to see how the world of politics will factor into the major time in everyone's lives. Additionally, with season 4 progressing its central characters into eighth grade and concluding close to Halloween, the next chapter could very well set up the group's transition into high school. Only time will tell what Big Mouth season 5 has in store when it premieres on Netflix on November 5.
