Big Mouth has all sorts of characters – from confused teenagers to hormone monsters – including a serial killer known as the Ponytail Killer, but who is behind all those murders? Big Mouth follows a group of teens as they deal with puberty with the help of their Hormone Monsters (although they mostly create problems) and other struggles along the way that don’t necessarily link to their sexuality.

Since its debut in 2017, Big Mouth has never been afraid to address controversial or “taboo” topics, name drop other companies and their properties, and even mock itself (and drag Netflix with it) as it’s a very self-aware series. Although its main focus is sexuality and puberty, Big Mouth has made way for other topics like self-love, feminism, toxic masculinity, attachment to technology, and more, making it a one-of-a-kind experience.

Underneath all that, Big Mouth has managed to create its very own mystery through a semi-recurring character: the Ponytail Killer, who viewers know just as much about as the characters in the series do. The Ponytail Killer hasn’t “appeared” often, but it has been enough to make viewers wonder who is responsible for the murders and if that person has already been introduced.

Everything We Know About The Ponytail Killer

Big Mouth Ponytail Killer

As the name says, the Ponytail Killer targets those who wear their hair in a ponytail, doesn’t matter if they’re female or male. The Ponytail Killer’s first appearance was in season 1’s episode “Pornscape”, where they momentarily targeted Jessi until she let her hair down. The killer then shifted their focus to a male character with a ponytail (mocking the late Karl Lagerfeld), who was later found in a dumpster. The killer appeared again in season 2’s episode “Smooch or Share”, driving their car (which, by the way, has a ponytail hanging from the rear-view window) and swerving off the road to avoid hitting Coach Steve. The trunk then opened and a woman, with her hands tied and her mouth gagged, jumped out and ran away.

Who The Ponytail Killer Definitely Isn’t

The first suspect was Coach Steve, as he recognized the victims from the pictures at the police station, but was later ruled out as the body in the dumpster was found while he was in custody. The next suspect was Andrew, as his DNA was found all over the dumpster – but the reason for that was that he threw out all the socks he masturbated with in that dumpster. Andrew was released, and the police were back to where they began. Coach Steve, Andrew, and the rest of the kids have been ruled out as suspects, but there are still many other characters to be considered.

Who Could The Ponytail Killer Be?

Big Mouth Leore

A safe bet would be that either Val or Kurt Bilzerian (or even both) is the Ponytail Killer, given that they have criminal tendencies and take pleasure in torturing other people. Their father, Guy Bilzerian, could also be a suspect, and as he’s a successful (yet very corrupt) lawyer, he could easily get away with it. However, there’s enough evidence that points to one particular character being the Ponytail Killer: Leore, Rabbi Paulblart’s son.

Leore appeared in season 2’s “Guy Town”, where Jessi’s father moved into Guy Bilzerian’s condo. There he shared an apartment with Leore, who was hiding in a closet with a framed pic of a pony and a mannequin of a dog with a wig. Marty then mentioned Leore’s “failed wigs for religious dogs business”, which has made many viewers believe that’s what he did with the ponytails of his victims. Some have gone as far as to compare the shadow of the killer (seen in the aforementioned car scene) with the shape of Leore’s face, which do match. With Big Mouth renewed through season 6, it’s possible they will reveal the identity of the killer at some point – unless they want to mess with viewers. Until then, Leore stands as the main suspect, but other characters shouldn’t be ruled out just yet.
