Netflix announces that its series Big Mouth, and its spin-off, Human Resources, have both been renewed for another season. Big Mouth, created by Andrew Goldberg, Mark Levin, Nick Kroll, and Jennifer Flackett, is an animated Netflix original series about two teenagers based on Kroll and Goldberg’s younger selves (also named Nick and Andrew). Many critics and fans have praised the show for its realistic and humorous portrayal of themes like puberty and sexuality. One of the ways Big Mouth approaches these subjects is through its "hormone monsters," little shoulder angels that pester and aid humans though all things puberty and growing up. Big Mouth season 1 premiered in 2017, and season 5 was released in November 2021.

In Big Mouth, the monsters play a supporting role, but in the spin-off show Human Resources, the monsters are instead placed front and center. Human Resources is an animated workplace comedy that depicts the behind-the-scenes world of the hormone monsters as they’re assigned to humans to help them with major life elements like love, hate, shame, and logic. Human Resources season 1 debuted only a month ago in March 2022, but has since gained similar praise to the original Big Mouth for its uniquely entertaining exploration of serious and universal themes.

Following a successful season 5 and season 1, respectively, Netflix has renewed both Big Mouth and Human Resources fore more episodes. Big Mouth season 7 has been green-lit, and season 6 premieres later this later. Human Resources season 2 has also been confirmed. The series regulars for Big Mouth (Nick Kroll, John Mulaney, Maya Rudolph, Jason Mantzoukas, Jordan Peele, Fred Armisen, Ayo Edebiri and Jessi Klein) as well as those for Human Resources (Kroll, Rudolph, Aidy Bryant, Randall Park, Keke Palmer, Brandon Kyle Goodman, and David Thewlis) are all expected to return.

No official information regarding the storylines for future Big Mouth or Human Resources seasons have been released, but there has been plenty of speculation about possible twists and turns the writers may have in store for their beloved characters. In Big Mouth, Jay (Mantzoukas) and Matthew (Andrew Rannells) got together in season 5, so it’s likely that season 6 will explore their relationship. Fans will also get to see how Jay’s former girlfriend Lola (Kroll) handles the end of their relationship. Additionally, Big Mouth season 6 and 7 will probably continue to explore changing dynamics between characters, including Nick (Kroll) and Jessi (Klein) becoming friends again after their breakup.

For Human Resources, it’s likely that the writers will continue to expand the world-building of the spin-off, and will possibly look to incorporate more crossovers between Human Resources and Big Mouth. Since Human Resources focuses on immortal creatures and human adults as opposed to middle schoolers, there may be more room for future seasons than with Big Mouth. Already, the characters in Big Mouth have become eighth-graders, and the writers understandably can’t keep them in middle school forever. More details about the new Big Mouth and Human Resources seasons will likely be revealed in the coming months.
