Maurice, the male Hormone Monster in Big Mouth, claims that he came into existence when a "Giant Alien" copulated with the earth, producing volcanic emissions from which he was formed. This series of events is most likely a gross exaggeration, as it both defies the basic laws of science and implies that he is older than any organism for which he could work.
Maury is hilariously inept, but his nature usually reflects those of his clients — for instance, he is hyper-sexual when he's with Andrew, but much calmer and more rational (relatively) when with Matthew. In terms of advice, every word that spills out of Maury's mouth must compulsorily be taken with a grain of salt.
Best: Warning Andrew Against The Excesses Of Pornography
Maurice might be constantly consumed with thoughts of sex, but he actually tells Andrew that he might be going too far with his addiction.
His charge doesn't listen to him, of course, forcing Maury and Nick to journey into a nightmare pornscape in order to retrieve Andrew from the clutches of obsession. This implies that even a Hormone Monster is fully aware of the dangers of overindulgence, especially when it comes to such a sensitive topic.
Worst: Tells Andrew To Sext His Cousin
Then there's the unnecessarily coarse Maurice, who tries to convince Andrew to do all sorts of horrifyingly embarrassing things, one of the worst being the time he makes him send unsavory pictures to his cousin in Florida.
Ignoring the whole incest factor in the situation, the plot backfires because every device in the Glouberman household is linked through the internet. The end result is most humiliating for poor Andrew, although he isn't sure which is worse — his parents seeing his genitalia or learning whom he plans on showing it to.
Best: Helps Andrew Explore His Sexuality
As a Hormone Monster, Maury is very open to all aspects of sexuality. This is seen in his guardianship of Matthew, but it also comes into play when Andrew questions if he might be gay. Maury is almost excited by the prospect, but no matter his charges' sexual identities, he supports them no matter what.
Worst: Not Locking The Bedroom Door
Andrew's 17-step program preceding the act of masturbation, a brilliantly funny sequence set to "Cell Block Tango" from Chicago, has worked for him for the longest time, explaining why he's so nervous about altering his routine.
Maury explains that he's been holding himself back for no reason, saying that a "man" is supposed to take charge and do what he wants, whenever he wants, regardless of consequence. For instance, leaving the bedroom door wide open during the event. Shame is a terrible emotion, but one really must have respect for the other people living in the same home.
Best: Encourages Andrew About His Body
Andrew doesn't have the same physical hang-ups as Jessi, Missy, or Nick, but he's still a pubescent child thrust into a world filled with a lot of uncontrollable stimulation.
Further, Maury keeps referring to him with a number of positive adjectives, which basically ensures that Andrew has some degree of comfort over how he appears.
Worst: Convinces Matthew Into Attempting An Aggressive Sex Act
Matthew learns from Aiden's friends about all their sexual exploits, and he feels rather left behind.
To add fuel to the fire, Maury states that Matthew should violently attack his boyfriend and demand to give manually stimulate him in the hope that it would spark a sexual inferno. This does nothing more than make Aiden uncomfortable, but he's mature enough to explain to Matthew that he doesn't need to do anything he's not ready for.

When Andrew is mistaken for a serial killer, Maury is the one who stands by his side throughout the ordeal. More importantly, after everyone discovers that the middle-schooler had simply been disposing of his "used" socks into the same dumpster the murder victims were found, he escapes prison but has to face an entirely new form of indignity.
Maury consoles Andrew, implying that people won't remember this in the future, a solid piece of advice that would help nearly every teenager in existence.
Worst: Tells Andrew To Go For It In Nick's Bedroom
Andrew's self-stimulating behavior can almost be classified as pathological, and Maury's perennial incentives just make it worse for the former. Since the boy can't go to bed before his daily duties are completed, the Hormone Monster tells him that he can use the cat-clock (which looks like his father's secretary) for some visual entertainment.
The only problem is that the aforementioned cat-clock is in Nick's bedroom, with him sleeping in the bed next to Andrew at the time. While there's nothing wrong with Andrew exploring his body, it's inconsiderate and problematic to do so with his unknowing best friend in the room.
Best: Explains Sex-Positivity To The Audience
The show is known for its constant fourth-wall breaking and meta-commentary, with many of the characters making references to the fact that their story is a fictionalized narrative. In one instance, Maury point-blank tells the audience that the upcoming episode deals with Jessi and her vagina, further asserting that it is a sex-positive one.
This indicates that he, for all his egregiously horny habits and tendencies, understands the importance of considering sex as something to be enjoyed, and not something to be ashamed of.
Worst: His Oral Sex Suggestion
The thing about Maury is that he is supposed to reflect the hormone-addled mental processes of teenage boys, which is why he acts with total disregard for the basics of human courtesy.
The point is that these thoughts are completely natural to have, but not always to act on. One of them is a crass suggestion he gives the boys when they are curious about oral sex, which has little regard to how their partner might feel about the situation.
