Disney is gradually removing a lot of its original content from other streaming services prior to the launch of Disney+, so where can Big Hero 6 be found online? Inspired by the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name, Disney’s Big Hero 6 was released in 2014 and is co-directed by Don Hall and Chris Williams who are the same team that would later make modern classic Moana. Set in the futuristic city of San Fransokyo, the film follows a young robotics genius named Hiro (voiced by Titans’ Ryan Potter) who – with the help of an inflatable robot named Baymax (Scott Adsit) – assembles a ragtag team of superheroes to find the villain responsible for his brother’s death.

Big Hero 6 – which was Disney’s first animated Marvel movie – was a big hit and raked in over $650 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing animated film of 2014. It also won several awards including an Oscar for Best Animated Feature and there was talk of a sequel for some time. While that sequel has yet to materialize, an animated series based on the film – Big Hero 6: The Series – premiered in 2017 on Disney XD and was recently renewed for a third season by the Disney Channel.

Unfortunately for subscribers, while there are still a handful of Disney films available to watch on Netflix, Big Hero 6 is not one of them. It is, however, available on Disney’s majority-owned Hulu and will be on Disney+ when the streaming platform launches in the U.S. on November 12. There's also a worthy alternative to Big Hero 6 available to stream on Netflix in the shape of Next Gen. Like Big Hero 6, Next Gen is also set in a futuristic city and focuses on a kid who forms a bond with a robot and it counts Charlene Yi and John Krasinski among its voice cast.

DIRECTV and Now TV subscribers are in luck as Big Hero 6 is available to stream on those services and it can also be rented or purchased via YouTube, Amazon and Google Play. Netflix subscribers shouldn’t get too downhearted about its lack of Disney titles, however. Disney might be trying to compete with Netflix, but the streaming service has proved profitable for Disney in the past.

It’s possible that the House of Mouse and Netflix may come to some agreement down the line which could mean some Disney movies return to Netflix in the future – Big Hero 6 included.
