Fans of Baymax, Hiro, and the rest of San Fransokyo's supers can get ready for new adventures, now that Big Hero 6: The Series #1. is finally arriving, continuing the film and series' adventure in comic book form, courtesy of IDW Publishing.

Fans have been kept waiting for this Big Hero 6 sequel, after the comic book series was announced to arrive more than 15 months ago. Originally announced in early 2018 and set to release in July 2018, the debut of the new series arrived over a year later than expected. Part of that delay may be related to the series being originally created to exist alongside the Big Hero 6 TV series that followed the first movie... before the comic itself was re-scheduled, cancelled, and then eventually re-solicited. But now, the time has finally come.

The team in the animated Big Hero 6 film is itself loosely based on a team from Marvel Comics that went by the same name. This team, however, had several differences. Instead of being based out of the fictional San Fransokyo, the original team was based out of an amusement park in Japan. Baymax, additionally, is created by Hiro rather than his brother, Tadashi, in the comics (and the team feels far more mature than the rag-tag group assembled for the Disney flick). This comic will give the Disney characters their turn on the pages.

The 2014 film won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. This was Disney's first animated film to feature Marvel characters, as they had just recently acquired the company in 2009. The plot follows expert scientists and a young robotics whiz, Hiro, who became heroes utilizing their latest inventions. They work together to unmask an anonymous villain who is stealing Hiro's robotics designs and mass-producing them while also helping Hiro cope with the loss of his brother, Tadashi. Tadashi's final invention, Baymax, acts as a protector to Hiro and cares for him. The cast of San Fransokyo's scientist-heroes, villains, and citizens featured well-known actors such as Jamie Chung, Damon Wayans Jr., Maya Rudolph, and James Cromwell.
