Big Brother fans are worried about the future of all-access live feeds after an announcement from Big Brother Canada. Each season, Big Brother houseguests spend 24/7 under constant video surveillance, earning the series its name coined from George Orwell's 1984. Viewers can always tune in to the edited episodes and live eviction each week, but those who want to know what's really going on inside the house can pay a monthly subscription fee to CBS for access to the live feeds, which offer a view of four different cameras positioned around the Big Brother house at any time.

The live feeds make all the difference when determining the state of the houseguests. Whether it's the formation of alliances like The Cookout, conflict between players, or just a glimpse into the real personalities of each Big Brother houseguest, live feeds provide an unfiltered look at the action. While Big Brother does air three times a week with edited segments showing moments from the house, the producers get to pick and choose which clips to show. Sometimes, certain narratives are manufactured, and the episodes do not accurately reflect what's happening inside the house.

Big Brother Canada Is Removing Live Feeds

On February 23, the official Twitter account for Big Brother Canada posted an announcement stating that 24/7 live feeds would be removed for the upcoming season. Instead, "Behind the scenes content will now be delivered through Digital Dailies -- uncut footage from inside the BBCAN house." Almost immediately, devoted Big Brother fans expressed confusion and disappointment over this decision. Even some series alum like Adam Poch from BB13 chimed in, saying, "So cancel the show. Or rebrand it. The concept is based on BIG BROTHER is always watching. Not.. let's be nice and shield people from reality."

Big Brother Fans Are Concerned For The Show's Future

Big Brother 24 Wall Competition

Although the announcement was only made for Big Brother Canada, it's natural to worry that the same changes could be made to the American flagship show. It's possible that production is testing out the change with the slightly less popular BBCAN to determine whether it's a worthwhile decision. However, some fans worry that the decision could cause the end of Big Brother Canada altogether. One disappointed viewer replied, "And that is how the hype of the new season ends before it started." The lack of unrestricted live feeds takes away the incentive to watch Big Brother at all.

Other fans believe the decision was made to prevent controversy, leaving viewers with no way of knowing the true behavior going on inside the house. One fan called the decision to remove live feeds, "an attempt to control the narrative and minimize any controversy." The latest season of America's Big Brother saw winner Taylor Hale severely bullied for several weeks inside the house, preceding another incident where Big Brother houseguest Kyle Capener was called out for racism after he openly spoke about fear of being evicted due to being white. Without live feeds, producers can minimize such controversies.

Although the decision only affects Big Brother Canada currently, it's reasonable for fans to speculate that the American version of the show could meet the same fate. Without unrestricted live feeds, Big Brother loses its ultimate purpose. In an attempt to control controversy, the show might end up alienating fans altogether.
