Warning! Spoilers for the Sunday, July 11 episode of Big Brother 23 below!

Brandon Frenchie's Head of Household reign on Big Brother 23 has been one of the most chaotic and confusing HOHs in the history of the show, so we're breaking down everything that's been happening in the BB23 live feeds. The season was kicked off on Wednesday night with a move-in competition that established Team Captains. Each of those Captains then got to pick their teams, and a subsequent HOH comp started right away.

The Jokers team won the first Head of Household competition of BB23, which meant that Team Captain Brandon Frenchie became HOH. During the pre-season, the fandom as a whole was unsure of where to land with Frenchie. A few former BB players revealed that they knew Frenchie from their interactions on Twitter, which prompted the fans to go through some of his old tweets. Over the years, Frenchie had been extremely outspoken on social media about hating the "alpha players" that dominated seasons like BB20BB21, and BB22.

Day One

Christian Birkenberger on Big Brother 23

Upon winning the first HOH of Big Brother 23, Brandon Frenchie did exactly what the fans had expected of him after reading his tweets about past BB seasons. Frenchie spent all of day one (Wednesday) approaching every single woman, parent, and person of color in the cast, promising them safety. By default, Frenchie stayed away from the white male players that were perceived as "jocks" in the house: Brent Champagne, Christian Birkenberger, and Travis Long. But because Frenchie barely spoke to Brent and identified Christian as a comp beast, it seemed like those were his two main targets at that point in time.

Day Two

Derek Xiao on Big Brother 23

Everything changed on day two (Thursday) of BB23: Christian won the Wildcard competition and became immune, and Brent established a great friendship with Frenchie by opening up to him. In a matter of 24 hours, Christian and Brent were no longer targets for Frenchie, and the HOH started to look elsewhere for potential nominees. Upon hearing that Derek Xiao and Travis Long had been chit-chatting and were approaching potential allies, Frenchie started to consider them as targets. But as day two passed by, Derek X and Travis made sure to connect with Frenchie on a personal level. Frenchie promised Derek X that he was safe. Travis didn't get any guarantee, but he seemed to slip out of Frenchie's mind as well.

Day Three

Alyssa Lopez on Big Brother 23

The Big Brother 23 live feeds were absolute chaos for the fans to keep up with on day three (Friday). Frenchie was clearly undecided on who to nominate, and his mind did a 180-degree turn with each new conversation that he had. Frenchie kept circling back to wanting to take out Christian, but Christian was immune from winning the Wildcard comp. Upon realizing that he couldn't execute his ultimate plan, Frenchie chose to put up the person he thought was the closest to Christian: Alyssa. In turn, Frenchie nominated Kyland as a clear pawn, making it very clear that he wanted to take Kyland off the block after playing the veto. As of Friday evening, it is assumed that Frenchie wants to backdoor Derek X. But after spending the first two days promising women and people of color that they were safe during his HOH, Frenchie nominated a woman and a person of color for eviction on week 1.

It is very likely that this very chaotic HOH reign will cause the players to mistrust Frenchie going into week 2. As the outgoing Head of Household, Frenchie won't be able to compete in the next HOH comp, which could mean trouble for him. His enemies are confused and angry, and his allies are confused and disappointed. Frenchie might be able to turn things around, but he certainly burned a lot of bridges in week 1 and didn't leverage his power as HOH to his advantage.
