Over the years, Big Brother has produced a number of seasons with returning players, but it hasn't yet put together a season exclusively comprised of its most legendary players. The first returning player season was season 7, Big Brother: All-Stars, and it featured the highest-caliber Big Brother cast so far. Icons like Dr. Will Kirby, Janelle Pierzina, and Danielle Reyes all battled it out in one of the show's most compelling iterations.

The show tinkered with other returning players ideas after the first All-Stars season, including a duos-themed hybrid-newbie cast in Big Brother 13, as well as seasons with anywhere from one to four returnees sprinkled in a newbie season. The second full All-Stars didn't happen until Big Brother 22 in 2020, but that season wasn't very well-received by fans, who found the cast to be underwhelming and the gameplay predictable. Only a few names on the BB22 cast were indisputable legends of the show, namely Janelle and her Big Brother 6 ally Kaysar Ridha.

A "Legends" season of Big Brother, although unlikely to happen in the near future, is a real possibility despite the failure of Big Brother 22. For an All-Star season to have a cast full of actual BB legends, though, it would have to be a far different format than the traditional summer Big Brother seasons. Such an event would likely have to follow the schedule of Celebrity Big Brother, which usually films for three weeks, rather than the three month game schedule of traditional seasons. Several of the most iconic Big Brother players have stipulated that they'd only return to the show in a shorter format, including two-time All-Star Janelle and Big Brother 16 winner Derrick Levasseur, who was a notable absence from the BB22 cast.

The problem with casting returning players on a full-length season is that many alumni have started families and established careers since their time on the show and can't leave their lives for the three-month Big Brother commitment. For instance, Dr. Will, considered to be one of the greatest players of all time, has become a reputable dermatologist and public figure since his time on the show, while his top-tier BB peer Dan Gheesling has built a sizable audience on Twitch. Additionally, many of the most iconic Big Brother players played before the prevalence of social media and stan culture, which in combination with the Big Brother live feeds, can lead to an unpleasant and toxic experience for the contestants of the modern era. Some legendary players might be more willing to give the game another go if they weren't under the fandom's microscope for such an extended period of time.

It's extremely exciting to imagine a legends-only season of Big Brother. Any BB superfan would love to see Dr. Will, Janelle, Dan, Danielle, and Derrick vie for the prize against players like Rachel Reilly, Vanessa Rousso, and Paul Abrahamian. With a shorter format, it's possible that some of these huge names could come together to play one more time, especially if the game followed the Celebrity Big Brother jury format, allowing the players to go home after being evicted rather than have them sequestered in the jury house for the season's duration. The idea might be little more than a pipe dream at this point, but Big Brother: Legends is an idea that will never go out of favor with the Big Brother fandom.
