During season 5 of Big Brother, the houseguests endured a new twist in which they were faced with a double eviction in one night. The twist added a ton of suspense, drama and high tensions to the game. It was ultimately so successful that production decided to keep it on the show. Now, fans expect to see a double eviction every season.

Last summer, during Big Brother: All-Stars, the returning houseguests were faced with the first ever triple eviction. Three All-Star players were sent packing within the duration of one, live episode. Because of this shocking twist, fans have been fearful of a potential triple eviction during season 23, which is currently airing. To their relief, Big Brother's longtime host Julie Chen Moonves announced during Thursday (September 2) night's episode that there will be two back-to-back double evictions within the next two weeks. Now, fans believe there will not be a triple eviction.

Double evictions truly shake up the game for many reasons. For starters, the houseguests are never warned nor prepared for a double eviction. They do not learn the news until moments before the stressful hour of competitions begin during the live episode. Essentially, two houseguests are sent out the front door during a double eviction. The live episode will start off seemingly normal with the houseguests voting for which of the two nominees they want to evict. After the first eviction, Julie will unveil the news of the a second eviction for the night. Then, the players will play a week's worth of game within one hour before sending home a second houseguest. Many strong players have left the game too early due to double evictions.

Typically, the houseguests have an entire week between when a new Head of Household is named and when it is time to vote for the next evicted houseguest. Within that week, the players can discuss with their allies what they think will be the best outcome of the week. The HOH has time to throughly think through who they plan to nominate after speaking with everyone individually. Those who are nominated also have time to pitch to their fellow houseguests why it would be beneficial to keep them. With a double eviction, everyone must think on the spot, which ultimately causes a majority of the drama and high tensions. This is also when true colors are shown because the players do not have enough time to discuss who to vote out. When the eviction vote count is revealed, there are often times some rouge votes. In the past, strong alliances have been broken up after double evictions. Perhaps it would be more beneficial to not reveal the eviction vote count.

With two back-to-back double evictions coming up on season 23, the remaining houseguests are in for an emotional rollercoaster throughout the next two weeks. Since there is usually only one double eviction per season, the houseguests will think they have finally survived one of the toughest parts of the season when this Thursday night's live show concludes; however, what they do not yet know is they will have to do it all over again the following week. There is a possibility the dominating six person Cookout alliance may not survive this drama-filled twist.
