The Big Brother unitard began as just an admittedly flattering red one-piece with black underwear overtop that players had to wear for a duration of time as a punishment. But as the seasons went on, the series decided to make the unitard – and the punishments that came with it - more embarrassing each time.

Big Brother houseguests wear costumes for other reasons, too, usually while hosting or playing a competition. Some of these costumes have been just as, if not more, hilarious and exciting as the unitards. While there are plenty of unpopular opinions about Big Brother, none of them pertain to these always entertaining get-ups. And of the 23 seasons to date, a few truly stand out.

Derek X.'s The Lord Of The Latrine (Season 23)

Derek X. dressed as Lord of the Latrine in Big Brother 23.

It isn't just this costume that was hilarious, but also the punishment that came with it. Derek X. had to wear this regal outfit, which was fit for a king, complete with hat and staff, for the entire duration of the punishment.

Not only that, but he also held the key to the main bathrooms in the house around his neck as the Lord of the Latrine, which meant any time someone had to use the toilet, they needed to ask for his permission so he could open it. Once opened, he also had to wait for them to finish and announce to the rest of the house who was inside doing their business.

Sam The Robot (Season 20)

Sam as a robot on Big Brother.

It was, and arguably still remains, the most futuristic costume and concept on Big Brother to date. As a punishment, Sam found her game totally thrown for a loop when she had to play using a robot as her only in-person presence. While she could speak to people through the robot, they could only hear her voice and see rudimentary, emoji-like facial expressions, though she could see what was going on through a monitor.

Sam might not have been among the favorite cast members on Big Brother 20, but Sam the robot was one of the most talked-about elements of the season. It was a unique concept, even though it meant Sam technically had to be secluded from the rest of the houseguests while she "wore" this costume.

Kaycee's Health Nut-itard (Season 20)

Kaycee dressed as a peanut on Big Brother, holding oversized dumbbells.

Kaycee as a peanut was adorable. Add a pair of oversized dumbbells to complete the "health nut-itard," along with the yellow bandana, and it was easily one of the best costumes on the show.

Kaycee, one of the best Big Brother winners, ended up wearing this season's version of the unitard due to the recurring prize swap Veto competition, and she took it all in stride. Even though the costume looked slightly awkward and uncomfortable, it was fun to see her have serious conversations with people in the house while dressed like a peanut.

Bowlerina Costumes (Several Seasons)

Four houseguests wearing bowlerina uniform in different colors on Big Brother.

The Bowlerina competition has appeared in several seasons of the series and it's one of the most creative competitions on Big Brother. The entire competition looks like a box of crayons come to life, with each player wearing a bodysuit in a different bright, solid color.

Add the knee-high socks and tutu, and it's one of the best costumes on the show. What truly makes it, though, was the players spinning around in circles then trying to navigate to a bowling lane while dizzy. It's easy to see why these outfits are a fan favorite.

Caleb And Victoria As Adam And Eve (Season 16)

Caleb and Victoria wearing Adam and Eve inspired costumes on Big Brother.

Talk about awkward. Caleb and Victoria were not really close in the house, not hanging around with the same people nor ever talking game. But a punishment saw them tied together for 48 hours while wearing Adam and Eve-inspired outfits. That involved Caleb being shirtless with leaves covering his underwear and Victoria wearing a green leaf-shaped bikini-like outfit.

The punishment saw them even have to follow one another to the bathroom, one person waiting outside while the other did their business, which was funny in and of itself. But the outfits are what truly completed it.

All Of Nicole's Costumes (Season 16, 18)

From the German folk unitard in season 16 that made Nicole look like she was working at Oktoberfest to the Super Safety costume, Nicole ended up having to wear the punishment costume on several seasons.

The traditional German-style unitard came with a stein and giant bratwurst that she had to carry around with her. The Super Safety costume, meanwhile, which Nicole wore in season 18, was comprised of an orange unitard and superhero cape along with reflective tape, so everyone knew she was coming. It was topped off, literally, by a hat shaped like a traffic cone.

Enzo As A Penguin (Season 12)

Enzo dressed as a penguin on Big Brother, standing up with his arms outstretched.

Enzo was a fun-loving character, which is precisely what made fans so excited when he returned for Big Brother All-Stars. When he first placed, Britney compared him to a character from The Sopranos in one of the most memorable quotes from Big Brother,  referencing his Italian heritage and thick New Jersey accent.

Enzo seemed like the type of person who wouldn't want to be caught dead in a penguin costume, but when he had to wear one following a Power of Veto punishment, he made the best of it. The black and white outfit with the big red bow was among the best in the show.

Casey As A Banana (Season 11)

Casey dressed as a banana on Big Brother, sitting down outside with sunglasses on.

There was something hilarious about watching Casey walk around the house for an entire week dressed as a life-sized banana as the result of losing a Power of Veto competition. The costume was bright and bold, while Casey was equally as funny and light-hearted.

As a fifth-grade teacher in real life, he was likely used to letting down his guard for the sake of some laughs, except this time, it was for an audience and houseguests of adults, not kids. Nonetheless, it was a miracle the houseguests took him seriously during game-related conversations when he looked like a big piece of fruit.

Jordan's Humilitard (Season 13)

Jordan wearing the humiltard on Big Brother, pretending to do ballet.

Jordan is a fan-favorite character and part of one of the most beloved showmances on Big Brother. She was the sweet and kind Southern young woman, which is what helped her win the season.

But that didn't come with some lows, including the competition loss that forced her to wear the unitard. It was called a "humilitard" because it was a green onesie combined with a pink tutu and dunce cap. To make sure the outfit was as humiliating as possible, the shirt read "I'm with stupid," with an arrow pointing up to her own face.

The Whackstreet Boys (Season 17)

John, Jason, and Julia dressed all in white as The Whackstreet Boys on Big Brother.

The result of a Battle of the Block competition loss, the trio of John, Jason, and Julia had to dress like a boy band while also putting on what was supposed to be entertaining performances for the rest of the houseguests as a parody band called The Whackstreet Boys. Fun fact: AJ McLean from The Backstreet Boys is actually a huge fan of Big Brother.

In true '90s boy band style, they wore all white, with John in a tank top and he and Julia in hats, carrying themselves with the signature boy band swagger. They didn't just have to perform one song but several choreographed song and dance routines throughout the punishment period, which lasted an entire week. They had fun with it and really gave their performances their all, which made the costumes all the more fun.
