The reality series Big Brother will kick off season 23 in just a few short weeks, and we're here to talk about the show's five least inspiring seasons. Looking back on the last 21 years of the show, there has been so much drama and competition and so many fights. Of course, there's been tons of good entertainment. Naturally, with such a long reign on television, Big Brother has aired several not-so-good seasons. Now, it's time to learn about the worst seasons of the show.

Fans aren't shy about criticizing certain seasons of the show. They take to social media (including Reddit) to express themselves and also find other ways to share their displeasure about the onscreen action. Therefore, it's pretty easy to isolate certain seasons as failing to hit the target with viewers. While every season has its highlights, some are just less thrilling and memorable. The seasons featured here will never be considered the best BB seasons. However, for Big Brother fanatics, they are still worth watching.

Season 21 (2019)

One of the more recent seasons, season 21, is actually strongly disliked amongst Big Brother fans. Despite the dominating alliance naming themselves "Gr8ful," a majority of the cast did not actually seem grateful to be on the show. Week after week, the "bad guys" of the house (typically, the Gr8ful alliance) won every competition. This ultimately kept them in power. Many times, houseguests were caught disregarding the lengthy lists of rules they must follow, such as being on a slop diet. Overall, this season was simply just not entertaining.

Season 19 (2017)

The cast of Big Brother season 19

Big Brother season 19 is best described as messy and chaotic. It wasn't the season's twists that turned off fans... it was actually the cast. Season 18 runner-up Paul Abrahamian returned to the house to compete alongside 15 newbies. However, some fans think that production rigged much of the game to benefit Paul. The rest of the cast was also strongly disliked by viewers. In fact, many longtime viewers stopped watching the show entirely after season 19, while others could not bear to continue watching all summer long.

Season 13 (2011)

In 2011, six former contestants (two of which were winners) returned to the house to compete as duos during season 13. While they had the advantage of already playing alongside their partners, the new contestants were forced to pair up and play alongside a stranger. This, along with numerous other aspects of the show, led viewers to believe production was rigging the game so the returnees would last longer. To make things worse, the new houseguests were not even good at the game.

Season 9 (2008)

Big Brother season 9 is perceived as being the worst season of the show ever to air. Aside from Celebrity Big Brother, it was the only season to air during the winter months. This was due to the writer's strike at the time. However, it ultimately made both casting and overall production feel rushed and sloppy. This season also had a duos twist, as well as an unlikeable cast.

Season 1 (2000)

Big Brother 1 Cast

Despite ultimately staying on air for over 20 years, Big Brother season 1 is actually one of the top five worst seasons ever. Much of the show was very different during season 1, compared to now. While the show is currently on three nights a week, back then it aired every single night. There was no Head of Household or Power of Veto. The house even looked completely different. Watching it back is almost like watching a completely different show.
