CBS has set an official premiere date for Big Brother 23 and Love Island USA season 3 for the summer of 2021. After a few pushbacks due to concerns with the COVID-19 pandemic, CBS was able to string together Big Brother 22: All-Stars, whiched aired in the summer of 2020. The casting process was made easier once the network decided to produce an All-Stars season with just returning houseguests, but a portion of the fandom was disappointed with how the competition on BB22 actually played out.

Other last-minute adaptations had to take place so that Love Island USA season 2 could air in the summer of 2020, as it had been scheduled pre-pandemic. To make the season happen, CBS moved filming from a villa in Fiji to a resort in Las Vegas. This second year was a big success in comparison to the first season of the American series, which served as renewed confidence for this franchise to keep going in the United States. Without much surprise, CBS announced that both Big Brother and Love Island USA would be coming back with new seasons in 2021.
