New houseguests always move into the Big Brother house with their own strategies, but longtime host Julie Chen Moonves isn't a fan of watching certain strategies play out. Some players come up with their own game plans, while others attempt to use popular strategies that worked in past seasons in order to hopefully help them get far in the game. The varying strategies that the houseguests choose to use can ultimately determine how entertaining a season will be for fans to keep up with it from home. Just like most BB fans, longtime host Julie Chen Moonves hates watching certain game strategies on the show.
Over the last 22 seasons of the show, Big Brother has a wide dictionary of terminologies used on the show. For new viewers, this can be somewhat confusing. However, to longtime BB fans, this is like their second language. While some of those terms have to do with gameplay, others refer to different competitions or describe individual players and their relationships with one another. One of the most reused terms is "floater," which refers to players that keep low profiles and attempt to play the game with all the different sides of the house. As a result, they typically just "float" through the game without doing too much dirty work.
Over the years, there have been mixed emotions in regards to the "floater" strategy amongst Big Brother fans. Some think it is a smart strategy while others hate watching these players. Alas, Julie is the type of Big Brother viewer that hates watching houseguests play a "floater" game (via Heavy). She believes that these players "lack strategy." On the other hand, that doesn't mean that this strategy hasn't been successful for certain players. For instance, BB16 star Victoria Rafaeli's "floater" strategy got her all the way to the final three despite holding the record for the most nominations amongst all Big Brother players.
A "floater" strategy is not the only gameplay style that many fans, including Julie, do not enjoy watching. In addition to this, Julie hates when players throw competitions. Throwing a competition is whenever a player loses a Big Brother comp on purpose. This is a common game strategy that players tend to use for different reasons. Although it can be frustrating for viewers at home to watch, there are times when it is necessary for a person to throw a comp, which Julie also noted. After all, there is always some type of risk and reward to winning a competition, no matter which season a player is competing in.
Even though there are certain aspects of Big Brother that fans don't want to see anymore, such as "floater" strategies and competition throwing, the show would not be the same without these factors. If there were to be a Big Brother season without any "floaters" in the house, the game would be very different given that there'd be room for more strong players willing to win every competition. To a certain extent, it's beneficial for producers to add a little balance amongst the houseguests on the show.
