We are only one week away from Big Brother 23, and executive producers Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan have now revealed the big twist that will rule the first month of BB23. Prior to this official announcement, some fans were fearing that the upcoming season would bring back the not-so-great twist of "dynamic duos" that was last seen on Big Brother 13. The social media pages related to the show had shared a few posts that seemed to tease duos twist, but it was clear that the fans were not on board with it.

Now, it can be confirmed that the houseguests on Big Brother 23 will be divided into teams for the first few weeks. This has happened on Big Brother in the past, but the rules for BB23 will be something that the fans have never seen before. The most notorious team divisions in Big Brother history took place on BB14 and BB18, both of which had returning contestants as team leaders. Recently, however, Big Brother Canada 9 introduced a "teams" twist in a house with only new players, breaking away from the format seen in the US edition. Now, it's time for BB23 to take things into new territory.

Team Division & Team Captains Explained

Executive producers Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan spoke to Parade and explained how the 16 brand-new players on Big Brother 23 will be divided. During the premiere episode, the houseguests will be divided into groups of four to move into the BB23 house. Once inside, each of these move-in groups will be immediately thrown into a competition. The person in each group that finishes the comp the fastest will be named Team Captain. Then, the four Team Captains will watch 90-second clips of the other houseguests to learn more about them. After watching those videos, the Team Captains will get to choose the players that they want on their teams. All of the events described in this paragraph will happen live during the BB23 premiere.

First Head Of Household Competition Explained

After all 16 players move in and teams are formed, the Team Captains will go on to compete on the first Head of Household of Big Brother 23. The Captain that wins that competition will be the first HOH of the season, and his, her, or their teammates will also receive immunity for the week. With that said, the first Head of Household of BB23 will then receive an offer from host Julie Chen that the producers call a "double or nothing offer from Julie that they won't be able to refuse." The entire season seems to follow the "big risks, big rewards" theme, so it looks like every major privilege will have a major consequence attached to it.

There's still an entire season of Big Brother 23 to unpack. However, this team division will be in effect for the first four weeks of BB23, so this will play an extremely large role in the game. The fans can't wait to expect the unexpected all summer long!
