Big Brother 22: All-Stars contestant Ian Terry is a legend, but many fans still wonder how Ian was able to beat Dan Gheesling to win BB14. Dan first competed on Big Brother 10, where he proved himself to be one of the greatest players in the history of the show. During that season, Dan expertly manipulated his allies to do his bidding and save himself from the nomination block. He is also remembered for winning five competitions and creating The Renegades alliance, which ultimately took him to the Final 2. In the BB10 finale, Dan won the $500,000 grand prize in a unanimous 7-0 jury vote against Memphis Garrett.

When Dan returned to compete on Big Brother 14, he was first brought on as a coach. In that format, returning players Dan Gheesling, Britney Haynes, Janelle Pierzina, and Mike 'Boogie' Malin were put in the house to coach three regular houseguests. If all three of their pupils were evicted, then the coach in question would also be eliminated. On the other hand, whoever coached the winner of BB14 would take home $100,000. Because this twist was met with mixed reviews by the fans, production introduced a new twist where the coaches were turned into regular houseguests competing for the full $500,000. That was the point when the competition between 21-year-old college student Ian Terry and Big Brother 10 winner Dan Gheesling really began.

By the time that Dan Gheesling became a regular player on BB14, his only pupil left was Danielle Murphree, who remained his closest ally in the house. On week 4, Dan and Danielle formed the Silent Six alliance with Britney, Frank, Mike Boogie, and Shane. Parallel to that, Ian Terry created the Quack Pack alliance with Dan, Britney, Danielle, and Shane. A third alliance, Chilltown 2.0, was formed between Ian, Boogie, and Frank. Ultimately, this means that the same seven players were all aligned through different agreements. However, everyone's cover blew up a few weeks later when Shane put Frank and Mike Boogie up for eviction. That single move destroyed the Sinister Six and exposed the Quack Pack... but Chilltown 2.0 managed to stay a secret.

Throughout Big Brother 14, Ian Terry managed to remain loyal to the Quack Pack while still feeding information to Chilltown 2.0. Ian's strategy worked so well that BB7 winner Mike Boogie only realized he had been betrayed during his exit interview. As the game moved forward, HOH Frank put both Dan and Danielle up for eviction. That week, Dan hosted his own "funeral" and managed to save them both from eviction. When Ian, Dan, and Danielle got to the Final 3, however, Dan blindsided his biggest ally by striking a Final 2 agreement with Ian. In the finale, it became pretty clear that Ian had played a much smarter and cleaner game. In turn, Dan had gotten too much blood on his hands and lost the sympathy of the jury. In a vote of 6-1, Ian took home the $500,000 grand prize and beat one of the greatest Big Brother players in history.

Ian Terry's plan worked the first time, but he certainly entered the Big Brother: All-Stars house with a massive target on his back. Now, everyone knows how smart he is, and how good he is at competitions that he's not purposely throwing. Furthermore, it is very unlikely that the players will allow a former Big Brother winner to win again. Nonetheless, as always, fans should "expect the unexpected."
